Matchroom Boxing remains one of the leading promotional companies in world boxing, continually adding exciting talent to their roster. Recently, they signed Indian amateur sensation Nishant Dev, and now they have announced the addition of Team USA welterweight and 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Omari Jones.

Omari Jones Joins Matchroom’s Elite Stable

The 2024 Olympic bronze medallist has signed a multi-year promotional contract with Matchroom. The talented American is expected to make his professional debut on March 15 against an opponent to be determined on a DAZN card Caribe Royale Orlando in Orlando, Florida, Jones’ hometown.

He will begin his professional journey in the super welterweight division, trained by Jason Galarza and his father Carl Jones. He impressed in the Olympics, eventually losing a 3-2 split decision to Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev in the semi-final.

This is a huge coup for Matchroom and enhances their ever-growing stable of American fighters, led by Jaron “Boots” Ennis and WBC lightweight champ Shakur Stevenson.

Jones has spoken to The Ring Magazine about his decision to join Matchroom: “I feel like what separated Matchroom from a lot of the other promoters was when I got the message from Eddie Hearn in my Instagram DMs the day after my last fight in the Olympics,” said Jones.

“And then the following day we actually sat down and met, and he just had a whole blueprint and plan. Right now, Matchroom is the company that I feel has the most fights going on. And, of course, being so young right now in the sport of boxing, activity is definitely very important for me at this stage.”

Reaction to Jones Deal

When announcing the deal, the Matchroom X post said: “Shaped by triumph and driven by the unyielding pursuit of greatness. A very special journey is about to begin.”

Eddie Hearn also revealed his thoughts on the signing: “We won the race. Welcome to the team the next American superstar, Omari Jones.”
