Caroline Dubois Sends Clear Message to Katie Taylor Over World Title

On Friday, November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, Katie Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs) got the better of Amanda Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KOs), once again. The Irish fighter won by unanimous decision (95-94 x3) in this closely contested rematch, watched by 50 million households that tuned into Netflix to watch the co-main event rematch between these two female boxing greats. Attention has quickly turned to what comes next for Taylor and Serrano, and Caroline Dubois (10-0, 5 KOs) has revealed to Sky Sports what she thinks the Irish fighter should do.

Caroline Dubois Pressures Katie Taylor to Vacate WBC Title

Dubois Feels It’s Her Time to Shine

Dubois is the current WBC interim lightweight champion, who has impressed greatly in her professional career, dominating every opponent she’s faced. She is understandably keen to have a full world title shot and has her eye on the WBC lightweight title, held by Taylor. “Sweet Caroline” has sent a clear message to Taylor when speaking to Sky Sports.

Revealing her feelings about Taylor’s inactivity at lightweight, Dubois said: “I’m mandatory to the belt. Katie needs to either come back down and fight me or let the belt go,” Dubois told Sky Sports.

She continued: “She hasn’t fought for the belt for over a year now. It seems apparent that she’s not going to come back down to 135lbs. So she’s just hoarding the belt, stopping me in my tracks and my future and my career, for what purpose?”

Talking about what Taylor may do next: “She’s done so well in her career, she’s fought Amanda Serrano, I’m sure she’s going to want the trilogy, that’s going to be a big money fight. But that will be at 140lbs.”

Dubois continued: “So there’s no business even holding onto the belt. Just let it go and I get on with my career and she can get on with hers.”

Message to Taylor and What’s Next for Dubois

The message from Dubois to Talor was straightforward: “Now it’s my turn. It’s my turn to come through, do the same thing, become undisputed at 135lbs.”

If the champion does vacate, Dubois has identified an opponent she would like to face for the vacant belt: I would like to fight Rhiannon Dixon,” Dubois said. “I’m sure she’s going to want to have a chance to get back into world title contention.”

Dubois added: “I don’t think there’s many situations where you lose your belt and then in your next fight you get another world title shot. Take it or leave it.”

“Another chance for her to redeem herself and become world champion and if not, then I will take the next hardest competition,” said “Sweet Caroline.”

Dubois also made it clear she wants other belts and has her eye on Terri Harper‘s WBO crown, in a potential unification fight, should she beat Dixon. When asked about facing Harper, she said: “Of course.” “That belt is mine. She’s holding on to it for now. She knows her heart isn’t in the game, her mind isn’t in the game.”

Talking about Harper, the 23-year-old Lonon fighter said: “She’s tried to pull it together as much as possible but she’s showed her character, which is quit. She crumbles under pressure and I think she wants me to come take that belt off her and I think that’s what’s going to happen.”

She added: “I think she wants a payday and a chance to sail off into the sunset.”
