Ryan Garcia Next Fight: Oscar De La Hoya Shocks With Social Media Post
The future of Ryan Garcia has been a talking point since the talented fighter tested positive for the banned drug ostarine in a pre and post-fight test before his April 20 win over Devin Haney. Since then, Garcia has made many alarming social media posts and agreed to serve a one-year ban for the failed tests, leaving him suspended in the U.S. until at least April, which led to his win against Devin Haney being changed to a no contest. It was revealed recently that “Kingry” would return in an exhibition bout on December 30, 2024, against Japanese kickboxing star Rukiya Anpo in Tokyo. Oscar De La Hoya has seemingly curtailed these plans in a shocking post via his X account.
Ryan Garcia Next Fight: Oscar De La Hoya’s Surprising Update
What Oscar De La Hoya Revealed
The statement via De La Hoya’s X account read: “Golden Boy Promotions has exclusive rights to Ryan Garcia’s fights. The organizers of this event have acknowledged as such and have agreed in writing that our sign-off is needed for this event to occur. As no such sign-off has been given, as of today there is no event with Ryan Garcia.”
In a recent press conference for the fight, Garcia had said: “This is my only route, so I found a way. Obviously taking months off ruins you, you lose a step, so we’re going to see how it goes.”
He added: “From there, we’ll make a decision, I’m just trying to get in the mix of things after a long break, get used to training, stay in shape and just continue developing for a big fight in April.”
Garcia and Golden Boy
This keep active exhibition against Anpo now looks set to be off the table with Garcia’s tumultuous relationship with Golden Boy seemingly in a worse place than ever. It remains to be seen what the long-term future holds for “Kingry,” but this talented yet clearly troubled fighter will have to seemingly wait a bit longer for his return to the ring.
