According to Dan Rafael, super middleweight contender Edgar Berlanga (22-1, 27 KOs) is set to return to the ring in early 2025, with Rafael reporting via his Fight Freaks Unite Substack that the return of “The Chosen One” is in the works with a planned date of March 8 in the headline slot of a Matchroom Boxing card on DAZN in Puerto Rico. Rafael further reports that no opponent has been set for the Match 8 bout.

The planned March 8 return would mark the first bout for Berlanga since challenged unified super middleweight champion Canelo Álvarez in a headline event on PBC on Prime Video pay-per-view on September 14. Not many predicted Berlanga would triumph, but he was competitive and showed his toughness. Following the loss, there were positives for the Puerto Rican to take.

“The Chosen One” has gone back and forth with Caleb Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) recently, and a potential match-up between these two would ensure a fiery build-up and an entertaining fight. A Plant-Berlanga fight will seemingly happen if the Puerto Rican fighter comes through his pencilled-in return on March 8.

Plant, a former IBF champion also lost to Canelo but defeated Anthony Dirrell and Trevor McCumby since then as well as losing competitively to David Benavidez.
