Canelo Álvarez Manager Eddy Reynoso Clarifies Chris Eubank Jr. Negotiations

Chris Eubank Jr. has been linked with a fight with Canelo Álvarez and he and his promoter Ben Shalom have both spoken positively about making the fight happen. Despite this recent positivity, Canelo manager Eddy Reynoso has spoken to Fight Freaks Unite and shot down hopes of a future fight between Canelo and Eubank.

Eddy Reynoso Sets the Record Straight on Canelo vs. Eubank Jr.

Ben Shalom and Eubank Jr. Had Been Confident on Making Álvarez Fight

Unified super middleweight champion Canelo Álvarez is a huge draw in boxing and anytime he fights, regardless of the opposition, it’s a huge moment for the boxing world. Rumours about the Álvarez-Eubank fight have been circling but these have been shot down by Eddy Reynoso who told Fight Freaks Unite: “It’s totally false.”  He added: “Eubank had his chance to fight Canelo in September and the only thing he did was complicate the negotiations. We will not touch base with him again for a future fight! Whatever I tell you is always true! I don’t like making statements but what I declare is true.”

What Eubank and Ben Shalom Said

When speaking to Sky Sports, Eubank spoke about facing the Mexican legend and said: “That fight can absolutely happen within the next year.” he continued: “He doesn’t have the pool of fighters available – there aren’t names left that fight fans want to see.” Talking about the options available to Canelo, Eubank said: “After [David] Benavidez, there are no other guys. Maybe [Artur] Beterbiev and [Dmitry] Bivol but they are not in his weight class and he probably wouldn’t go up for those guys.”

Ben Shalom had teased that negotiations were ongoing: “For me the two fights for me are Canelo and Conor Benn. We’ve already started small conversations around the Canelo fight,” said Shalom.

Despite the positivity from Shalom about making the fight in the future, Reynoso has responded emphatically that it will not happen. All roads seemingly now point to Eubank vs. Conor Benn.
