Eddie Hearn Reveals Surprising Name Who Could Face Shakur Stevenson
Joe Cordina (17-1, 9 KOs) was last seen in the ring when he was defeated by eighth-round TKO against Anthony Cacace on the Ring of Fire undercard. The defeat saw the Welshman lose his super featherweight titlte. Before the bout against Cacace, Cordina had revealed that would be his last fight at super featherweight, before moving up. Eddie Hearn has spoken to Boxing News about this move up in weight and revealed a possible world title shot against WBC lightweight champion, Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs).

Eddie Hearn Talks Possible Joe Cordina vs. Shakur Stevenson Fight
Cordina endured defeat in his last fight at super featherweight, but it appears the Cardiff native could be heading into a huge fight at lightweight against the reigning WBC king Stevenson. The Newark native has recently begun a promotional free agent after the end of his Top Rank deal and has since been linked with other stables such as Golden Boy and Matchroom. Stevenson has been linked with a fight against William Zepeda and Shakur addressed that fight on his social media, seemingly confirming it will take place in February 2025.
Eddie Haern revealed to Boxing News that he has spoken to Cordina about a potential world title opportunity: “I’ve spoken to Joe about fighting Shakur Stevenson. Joe is up for it, but he also understands the challenge.”
Hearn continued: “Ideally, moving up a weight division, you’d probably want an easier fight than Shakur Stevenson, but Joe is at the age where he wants to be involved in the biggest fights in the sport.
“If he feels the opportunity is right, I’m sure he’ll take it. But nothing close yet.”
Shakur Stevenson
Stevenson has been linked with moving to Matchroom Boxing and recently revealed his admiration for the promotional giants: “With the energy that he got, I’m definitely going to be able to give my best performances and be able to show out. I love the energy at Matchroom.”
Regardless of whether Shakur signs with Matchroom, this fight could seemingly be made without great difficulty and be a suitable test for the American world champion before he takes on Zepeda.
