Christian Mbilli Blasts Out Mark Heffron

Christian Mbilli (27-0, 23 KOs) barely broke a sweat in his victory over Mark Heffron (30-4-1, 24 KOs) on Saturday night.

All it took was 40 seconds of the first round of their super middleweight contest. The two fighters headlined an Eye of the Tiger Management event at the Centre Gervais Auto in Shawinigan, Canada. Fight fans in Canada were able to catch the May 25 card live on Punching Grace. Those in the United States could do so on ESPN+.

Mbilli immediately got to work, pressing forward and looking to stop his opponent. Soon, he was able to get Heffron along the ropes, and Mbilli caught him with a left hook to the body. Heffron was unable to beat the count of referee Michael Griffin, resulting in a knockout victory for the Frenchman.

“I didn’t see the fight happening like that,” said Mbilli in French. “It’s really the work to the body…and he couldn’t continue.”

“It’s true that I didn’t want to take the risk of having a little injury from a difficult fight.”

When asked about what is next for him, Mbilli did not give any specific details and said he leaves it up to his team to announce that.

Arslanbek Makhmudov returns to win column

Arslanbek Makhmudov (19-1, 18 KOs) won via second-round knockout against Miljan Rovcanin (27-4, 18 KOs). The time of stoppage was 2:32. Makhmudov sent his opponent down once in the first (almost knocking him out of the ring) and again in the second. After the second knockdown, Rovcanin failed to beat the referee’s count, giving Makhmudov the knockout win.

Mehmet Ünal (10-0, 8 KOs) won via fourth-round technical knockout against Rodolfo Gomez Jr. (14-8-3, 10 KOs). The time of stoppage for this 10-round light heavyweight clash was 2:17. Gomez was never dropped, but the referee deemed that he was taking too much punishment and stopped the fight.

Wilkens Mathieu (9-0, 6 KOs) got a fourth-round technical knockout against Przemyslaw Gorgon (17-13-2, 6 KOs). The time of stoppage for this six-round contest was 0:38. Gorgon went down once in round one, twice in the second and once in the fourth. The fight came to an end with the referee stepping in, deeming Gorgon to have taken too much punishment.

Moreno Fendero (6-0, 4 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Rolando Mansilla (19-15-1, 9 KOs). Scores for the six-round middleweight clash were 60-54 (x2) and 60-53.

Christopher Guerrero Wins in Impressive Fashion

Christopher Guerrero (11-0, 6 KOs) won via first-round technical knockout against Kenny Larson (7-2-1, 5 KOs). The time of stoppage for this eight-round bout was 2:16. Larson was ruled knocked down by the referee after it was deemed that the ropes held him up early in the fight. A barrage of punches from Guerrero made the referee step in and end the proceedings.

Alexandre Gaumont (11-0, 7 KOs) won a split decision against Santiago Fernandez (8-1-1, 4 KOs) in an eight-round middleweight clash. While one judge saw it 78-74 for Fernandez, the other two saw it 78-74 and 77-75 for Gaumont. This was a controversial decision as it appeared that Fernandez was doing the better work over the eight rounds.

Jhon Orobio (9-0, 8 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Alexis Camejo (8-3-2, 1 KOs, 1 NC). Scores for the four-round lightweight contest were 40-36 across the board.
