Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez Records Impressive Win Against Sunny Edwards

Sunny Edwards was full of confidence coming into the fight, but “Bam” appeared unfazed as fight night approached.

After a cagey opening round, Rodriguez began to establish his jab – and mark Edwards around his eye. “Bam” appeared to take Edward’s best work in his stride and keep walking forward. “Showtime” had his moments and landed several eye-catching combinations, but “Bam” stuck to his game plan well and began to take over in a dominating fashion, seemingly hurting Edwards on more than one occasion.

The British fighter showed his bravery and kept fighting back. Round number nine saw “Bam” step his foot on the gas – and catch Edwards with a lovely left cross, knocking him down. At the end of the round – the corner of Edwards decided to throw the towel in, announcing “Bam” as the king of the flyweight division.

Post-Fight Quotes

In the post-fight interview, Rodriguez couldn’t hide his delight at the win: “I worked my ass off for this.” He added: “I was confident the whole fight.

“Bam” was full of praise for his opponent: “He was quick, a lot smarter than I thought.” Rodriguez went on to call out Juan Francisco Estrada in his post-fight interview.

Edwards was gracious in defeat, declaring: “From about the second round I couldn’t really see out of the left eye. Jesse’s a helluva a fighter, I knew that before taking the fight and I certainly knew today. The better man won on the night. No excuses.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn was full of praise for both fighters: “We need to thank Bam and Sunny Edwards. What you saw tonight was a pound-for-pound great performance.” Hearn also spoke positively on making a fight between Rodriguez and Estrada.
