Andrade cruises in victory of Sulecki

It took WBO middleweight champion, Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade, 11 years for one reason or another to have a professional fight in his home city of Providence, Rhode Island. On Saturday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center, he was able to treat the homecoming crowd to a one-sided victory by majority decision against challenger Maciej Sulecki to retain.

From the opening bell, Andrade (28-0, 17 KOS) was in control of the contest, applying pressure to Sulecki and cashing in on his pre-fight prediction of hitting the “the big head of Sulecki,” which led to a knockdown early in the first round with a well-timed left. The Polish Sulecki had beat to count to continue fighting, but this is one night he would like to forget.

From the second round on, this became an Andrade boxing clinic as he was able to outbox Sulecki, who didn’t have an answer at all the entire fight. Compubox pointed out that Sulecki landed single digits in connected shots in all 12 rounds. after landing 18 per round in his previous four matches. The old saying is you can’t hit what you can’t see, and that is what was happening throughout this contest. It got to the point that the broadcast team was arguing that Sulecki may have won an actual round in this match.

After 12 rounds, that answer was zero as all three judges scorecards had it 120-107 to confirm what everyone saw watching the main event on the streaming service DAZN Saturday night. While this wasn’t the “blast him out of the building” knockout victory many were expecting, this was an impressive showing.

“My dad told me to take it easy and told me to give them what they came here to see, and that’s the sweet science of boxing,” Andrade said in terms of letting off the gas on Sulecki midway through the fight.

While Sulecki falls to 28-2, the end game for Andrade was who will he face next.

“We want the undisputed championship. September 14, let’s go. Viva la Mexico!” Andrade stated in his post-fight interview calling out newly “Franchise” (ugh) champion Canelo Alvarez or against Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin.  While I don’t think that’ll happen next up for him after tonight, this does cement that “Boo Boo” has to be in the conversation for top middleweight fights.
