Teofimo Lopez: ‘I Think Ya Must’ve Forgot’
Teofimo Lopez went on social media this morning to announce a fight with Josh Taylor on June 10th amongst other things.
Former unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez (18-1) has once again popped up on social media. In a tweet that was posted this morning, Teofimo said while running next to his father (Jr.), “I tell you guys something, comes a point of time in everyone’s journey where God, Jesus himself, will shy away all the snakes, cut the grass and remind you who was here with you all along. This is why we hold it down. Ain’t nobody else around. Yes sir, just me and pops, like we always been. I don’t need a group; f@ck a groupie. I don’t need an entourage, f@ck an entourage. I’m the entourage. What we look like? Trying to claim what we earned. Who is you? We the one. We was born as the one. What I’m saying is, don’t forget who got you there. Never forget where you came from youngins. I think ya must’ve forgot.”

The caption read, “Mark your calendar; 06/10/2023: Lopez vs. Taylor”. This fight and date have been making its rounds through boxing circles, but the delay of the announcement comes due to the Madison Square Garden availability. The New York Knicks seem to be heading to the playoffs along with the New York Rangers (NHL), so that can make things problematic when booking at the Garden. If they can sort it out, Teofimo Lopez vs. Josh Taylor for the WBO super lightweight title will be the hottest ticket in town come June 10th.
Lopez was in action as recently as December when he fought to a split decision victory over Sandor Martin (40-3). It wasn’t one of his best performances, and after the fight, Lopez was heard questioning whether he still had it to Top Rank’s P.R. specialist Gardy Lopez. He later downplayed the comment saying that he knew the mic was hot. If this fight gets officially announced, it will join a good list of matchups that the fans truly want to see.
