Always Confident Caleb Plant Returning Saturday Night

Welcome to the Fight Freaks Unite recap podcast coming off a light boxing weekend that had an entertaining Showtime tripleheader topped by Sebastian Fundora’s decision win over Carlos Ocampo to retain the WBC interim junior middleweight title. We review that card — but wait, there’s more! Listen to my exclusive interview with former super middleweight titlist Caleb Plant, who returns to the ring on Saturday for the first time since his loss to Canelo Alvarez for the undisputed title.

That’s, when he faces former two-time titlist Anthony Dirrell in the co-feature of the Deontay Wilder-Robert Helenius PPV card.

Here’s what we discussed on this episode (in order):

Fundora’s lopsided win over Ocampo, referee Jack Reiss’ performance in the bout and Fundora’s future.
We also discussed the two other bouts on the card, Carlos Adames’ impressive third-round knockout of Juan Macias Montiel to win an interim middleweight belt and Fernando Martinez’s one-sided rematch victory over Jerwin Ancajas to retain his junior bantamweight world title.

You can hear my thoughts with T.J. Rives recapping the PBC card in Carson, CA by clicking below,

My interview with Plant. We discussed several topics, including his stoppage loss to Canelo for the undisputed super middleweight title last fall, dealing with the defeat, the birth of his daughter in August, changing trainers to begin working with Stephen “Breadman” Edwards, and thoughts on fighting Dirrell.

As usual, Plant, who lost his IBF belt to now undisputed champ Canelo Alvarez last November, didn’t lack for confidence, At 21-1, 12 KO’s, the Las Vegas resident knows that an impressive win will put him back on the radar for bigger fights and perhaps another title shot.

As for the 37 year old Dirrell, he is ready to bring a challenge for the ultra-confident Plant. He’s 34-2-2 with 25 KOs.  He had the WBC 168 lb. crown until September of 2019, when David Benavidez stopped him by TKO in L.A.
