It’s anyone’s guess what Ryan Garcia agrees to next?

Trying to figure out when and where talented, unbeaten Lightweight Ryan Garcia will fight next has become side-show and borderline farce, in and of itself. However, we may be a step closer to his showdown with England’s Luke Campbell becoming a reality late this year.

Boxingscene Senior writer Jake Donovan first reported that Garcia, 20 – 0, 17 KOs and Campbell 20 – 3, 16 KOs, that a blind person next week will be used to determine the promoter of their “proposed matchup.”

The World Boxing Council has ordered Garcia and it’s former 135 lb. champion Campbell to fight for the interim version of its title before the end of the year. And a source told the site that on Tuesday the fight will go for a blind purse bid to determine who gets the rights to promote it:

The two biggest suitors will be Campbell’s promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing and then, the strained and at times, comical relationship of Garcia and his promoter Oscar De La Hoya with Golden Boy Promotions.

Whichever promoter lands the purse bid will more than likely have try to have their fighter be the host either in the U.K. (Campbell)  or probably in either Las Vegas or California (Garcia) for this matchup.

Another big variable will be whether or not there can be fans in attendance in either location?

Campbell’s 12 round Unified title decision loss to Vasiliy Lomachenko was in front of a sellout crowd at the O2 arena in London.

As for Garcia, he remains inactive even after De La Hoya and Golden Boy had slotted him to fight their first by card back post Covid 19 pandemic on July 4th weekend in Indio, California. Only to have Garcia reportedly not agree to anyone on the list of opponents that Golden Boy had for him or at least the money.

And, this is the second time in less than a year the Garcia and De La Hoya couldn’t come to terms and he refused to fight on a card for Golden Boy.

And, just like the first time last September, both the fighter and the Hall of Famer, turned promoter have turned nasty towards each other publicly on social media.

This makes it more intriguing as to whether or not they De La Hoya and Golden Boy actually care enough to substantially bid on the fight or whether they will simply let her learn take the risks of dealing with Garcia.

In the midst of all of this, Garcia turned 22 years of age on Saturday with it still unknown, as to when his next fight will actually happen and if it will actually even be against Campbell?

Garcia was last in the ring for less than a minute and a half, when he kayoed Francisco Fonseca in February with one straight jab.

He’s obviously demonstrated in the past that he’s willing to back out on other proposed situations, especially if he believes he’s being slighted in the bank account.

However, the potential Campbell bout would be the most prominent fight for his career to date and it would be hard for anyone to justify him fighting a lesser fighter for less money and prominence, instead.

Then again, that’s who Ryan Garcia has been almost a year now.
