Navarrete over matches Lopez in six rounds
Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete, kept active and kept on rolling the competition. Navarrete, the WBO junior featherweight world champion, knocked out Uriel Lopez in the sixth round of a featherweight non-title bout Saturday evening from TV Azteca Studios in what played out into one-way traffic.
It was the sixth victory in 13 months for Navarrete (32-1, 28 KOs), who upset Isaac Dogboe in December 2018 to win his world title.
Lopez (13-14-1, 6 KOs) was game, but no match for Navarrete’s swarming body attack, and that is what did him in as the fight went on. What started slowly in the early rounds turned ugly for the fight veteran as he was knocked down with body shots n the fifth and six rounds with the second one leading to the stoppage.

Said Navarrete after the fight: “I have the utmost respect for Uriel Lopez. He put forth a courageous effort, but I was coming to win by knockout. I want to unify titles, but if nobody accepts my challenge, I’ll move up to featherweight.”
Navarrete had issues in his past few fights making weight at 122, but we’ll see if they keep him active during this pandemic at 126 with more guys like Lopez during this time as he’s been facing a who’s who of unknowns dating back to the Dogboe rematch.
In other action on the card:
Featherweight Edwin Palomares (13-3-1, 4 KOs) looked impressive, stopping Carlos Ornelas (25-3, 14 KOs) in five rounds. Palomares, for the majority of the fight, was able to fight his fight and send Orenelas down after the accumulation of punches that forced him to stoppage of the match.
Featherweight Sergio Sanchez (15-1, 9 KOs) delivered the knockout of the pandemic, stopping Gustavo Alan Pina (8-3, 5 KOs) in two rounds. Sanchez timed up Pina and rocked him with a left hook that had him out on his feet, ending the contest before he fell hard to the canvas.

To open up the card on ESPN, Ivan Armando Garcia Carrillo (6-0, 3 KOs) decisions Roberto Palomares (5-5-1, 1 KO) in a fun six-round contest. Carrillo was able to string more combinations together, and that gave him the nod on the scorecards with scores of 59-55 2x, 59-56.
