The Last Three Fights of Shakur Stevenson
The Last Three Fights of Shakur Stevenson
On July 12 at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York City, Shakur Stevenson (23-0, 11 KOs) will defend his WBC world lightweight title against William Zepeda. Ahead of this intriguing showdown on The Ring III fight card, we bring you Stevenson’s last three opponents.
Shakur Stevenson: Last Three Opponents
Josh Padley
On February 22, 2025, Stevenson faced late replacement Josh Padley. It was a brave showing by the Brit, but Stevenson was first to the punch for most of the fight. His footwork, speed and accuracy made it difficult for Padley to get any kind of foothold in the bout.
When Padley did try to land, the American often evaded his attacks with relative ease. In the ninth round, a well-timed straight left floored Padley, who was soon knocked down again. Padley’s corner had seen enough after a third knockdown and threw in the towel. A smart finish from Stevenson and a much-needed KO finish from the champ.
Artem Harutyunyan
Stevenson faced Artem Harutyunyan on July 6, 2024, defending his WBC title for the first time. It was a quiet opening few rounds, with Harutyunyan the aggressor. However, Stevenson was more accurate. As the fight progressed, Stevenson’s output increased, with his body shots forcing his opponent to fight off the back foot.
Stevenson took control as the fight went on, mixing his attacks impressively while evading the rare attacks from his opponent. The judges’ scorecards read 119-109, 118-110 and 116-112, all in favour of Stevenson.
Edwin De Los Santos
Shakur Stevenson faced Edwin De Los Santos on November 16, 2023. The vacant WBC lightweight title was up for grabs. Stevenson had some early success with his jab, but the output was low from both. Both fighters appeared unwilling to take any risks, which made it a challenging watch.
De Los Santos tried to apply pressure in the later rounds, but Stevenson’s defence was too slick. There were no real talking points in the later rounds, as Shakur Stevenson ultimately won by unanimous decision, with the judges’ scorecards reading 116-112 x2 and 115-113.
