Title fights from around the world – Kaye Scott triumphs against Olivia Curry in rematch

Today, boxing world title fights take place around the globe and are more accessible to watch than ever before. Sometimes, championship bouts do not receive as much attention and go underreported. Big Fight Weekend commits to writing about boxing news, previews and recaps. As such, the site now has a recurring segment on championship bouts from around the world from the past week.

The focus of these pieces will be on clashes ranging from atomweight to heavyweight that had the WBA, WBC, IBF, and/or WBO titles on the line. This week’s edition of “Title Fights From Around the World” consists of just one recap. A new middleweight champion was crowned after triumphing in a rematch in the United States.

Kaye Scott (5-1-1, 0 KOs) is a unified titlist following her majority decision victory against Olivia Curry (7-3-2, 2 KOs).

Although one judge had the action 95-95, the other two saw it 98-92 and 97-93. Scott now holds the WBA and WBC middleweight world titles with the win. The vacant titles were put at stake in the first meeting between the pair. After that fight ended in a draw, the belts were once again put on the line for their rematch.

The world title contest headlined a Dec. 20 Salita Promotions card at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, MI. Fight fans around the world could catch the action live on DAZN.

Scott started off by pressing forward in the opening round. She was able to carry on despite getting cut by the right eye due to an accidental clash of heads in the second. Curry applied consistent pressure for the duration of the bout, but Scott was willing to fight on the inside. The Australian utilized her experience from the amateurs to get the better of her opponent. Although one judge scored the fight a draw, it was clear after 10 rounds that Scott had done enough to get the win.
