Jai Opetaia vs. Hüseyin Cinkara round-by-round updates

Round 1: Both men started the round bouncing on their toes and mostly staying at range of each other. Jai Opetaia was the busier of the two, landing singular shots to the head and body from time to time.

Round 2: Opetaia putting a lot onto the punches he throws now. He is starting to tag his opponent consistently now. However, with roughly a minute to go Opetaia gets rocked with two right hands. He makes it out of the round by keeping his distance and clinching. The Australian had been doing well until that moment.

Round 3: Hüseyin Cinkara moving off of the back foot. Opetaia busier and appears to have recovered from what transpired in the final minute of round two. The reigning champion is in control

Round 4: Cinkara looks exhausted and is relying on singular shots. Opetaia is being consistent and makes sure to throw to the head and body. He has been gradually breaking down the challenger.

Round 5: There is a bad cut under the right eye of Opetaia. It has not impacted his approach but it looks bad nonetheless. Cinkara still not doing much and will need to do something different if he wants to win rounds.

Round 6: Opetaia continues his beatdown. Cinkara’s chin has made getting a knockdown difficult. He just continues to stand on his feet in spite of the many power punches to the head and body he has taken.

Round 7: Cinkara has been keeping his hands low (probably from exhaustion). He continues to just move around the ring and throw the occasional punch. Opetaia consistently going to the body but will need some more to get the stoppage.

Round 8: And it happens! A single overhand left sends Cinkara to the canvas and he is not getting up! The referee is waving it off! That was a brutal shot and not many would get up from that. Jai Opetaia retains his IBF cruiserweight world title once again.
