Cristobal Lorente vs. Nathaniel Collins fight recap

Cristobal Lorente (20-0-3, 8 KOs) and Nathaniel Collins (17-0-1, 8 KOs) fought to a split draw in their European title encounter.

One judge had the action 115-113 for Lorente. Another had it 115-113 for Collins while a third saw it 114-114. Lorente keeps his European featherweight title with the result.

The early rounds saw both men stand at range in an attempt to establish their jab. Any attempt at a flurry by one fighter was met with a flurry from the other. Collins had the better of the exchanges and was starting to connect downstairs as well. Lorente became more aggressive as the fight went on, closing the distance and landing shots at close range.

The Spaniard was buzzed by shots upstairs in round six. Instead of covering up, he chose to go toe-to-toe with Collins which resulted in an entertaining couple of minutes until the bell rang to end the round. Lorente’s looping punches kept things competitive in the second half of the fight and helped him close the gap on the scorecards.

The last 30 seconds of the contest saw both men throw punches with reckless abandon at each other. When the final bell rang, Collins appeared to have done just enough to get the win on the scorecards. Ultimately, two of the judges saw things differently.

Undercard on DAZN

Although he got up, he was soon knocked down again from a right hook to the body followed by a right uppercut and hook upstairs. The fight was terminated immediately after this. Brown is now the Celtic middleweight champion with the win.

John Joe Carrigan (1-0, 1 KO) won via first round technical knockout against Dawid Przybylski (2-4, 1 KO). The official time of stoppage for this four-round super welterweight bout was 2:56. Carrigan was cut by the right eyebrow from an accidental clash of heads. Przybylski was dropped from a barrage of punches with less than 30 seconds left in the round. The fight was terminated before the referee reached the count of 10.

Louie O’Doherty (11-0, 3 KOs) won via tenth round technical knockout against Regan Glackin (16-1, 3 KOs). The official time of stoppage for this 12-round lightweight contest was 2:33.
