Claressa Shields vs. Danielle Perkins Fight Recap
Few punches were thrown in the opening round as both fighters remained at range of each other. Throughout the fight, Perkins struggled to land. This was despite being the taller fighter with the longer reach. Shields remained patient, waiting for her opponent to get within range before landing her power punches. This approach allowed her to dominate rounds and it was how the majority of the fight played out. In the final seconds of round 10, Shields landed a pull counter flush on the face of her opponent, knocking her down. Perkins was able to get up, but by then it was too late to make a comeback.

Post-fight Interview
Claressa Shields
“It feel [sic] unbelievable to be honest,” said Shields after the fight. “I had a really hard training camp and just last Friday I [injured] my left shoulder so I wasn’t able to use my good jabs today. But I didn’t want to call the fight off because I had asked God to give me a big fight in my hometown. He did that so I decided to keep on going. I had the best medical team…I want to thank God. I just feel so overwhelmed, I feel so happy. Shout out to my opponent Danielle Perkins. Man that girl was strong as hell.”
