Today, boxing world title fights take place around the globe and are more accessible to watch than ever before. Sometimes, championship bouts do not receive as much attention and go underreported. Big Fight Weekend commits to writing about boxing news, previews, and recaps. As such, the site now has a recurring segment on championship bouts from around the world from the past week.
The focus of these pieces will be on clashes ranging from atomweight to heavyweight that had the WBA, WBC, IBF, and/or WBO titles on the line. This week’s edition of “Title Fights From Around the World” consists of two recaps. Read on to see how they went.
Camila Zamorano remains boxing’s youngest current champ
Camila Zamorano (14-0, 1 KO) had a dominant showing in her unanimous decision win against Claudia Ruiz (7-3-1, 0 KOs).
Scores for their bout were 100-90, 98-92, and 97-93. Zamorano remains the WBC atomweight world champion with the victory. She held an interim version of the title following her win against Mika Iwakawa last year. Zamorano was later promoted to full titlist at just 17 years of age following the retirement of Tina Rupprecht. The victory against Ruiz was her second title defence. At 18, Zamorano remains the youngest current boxing world champion.
Zamorano-Ruiz took place on a Feb. 21 Coliseo Boxing Promotions card at the Palenque ExpoGan in Hermosillo, México. Fight fans in the country could catch the action live on Azteca 7. The championship bout can now be watched here.
Zamorano’s longer reach helped her land punches from a distance. Ruiz utilized looping shots in an attempt at closing the distance, but had limited success doing so. The reigning champion consistently threw the jab and was generally busier than her opponent. That activity helped her win wide on the scorecards.

Gabriela Timar wins vacant WBO title against Marina Loreto
Note: This fight took place on Dec. 26. Unfortunately, Big Fight Weekend did not report on it. As such, it is part of this week’s edition of “Title Fights From Around the World.”
Gabriela Timar (16-2, 3 KOs) claimed a vacant world title with a majority decision win against Marina Loreto (8-1-2, 0 KOs).
Although one judge had the action 95-95, the other two saw it 98-92 and 97-93. Timar is now the WBO atomweight world champion with the victory. This was her first time winning a world championship belt.
The fight took place on a Dec. 26 Swiss Pro Boxing card at Kursaal in Bern, Switzerland. Fight fans around the world could catch the action live on the Swiss Pro Boxing website.
Timar consistently moved around the ring to avoid the shots coming at her. She relied on counterpunching to win rounds. Loreto landed a straight right to the head in the sixth that bloodied the face of her opponent. Despite having to deal with bleeding till the end of the contest, Timar carried on fighting as she had been. Loreto was unable to capitalize on what she did in round six. Ultimately, two of the judges preferred the work of Timar, making her the new WBO atomweight world champion.
