Usyk vs Dubois 2: Ex-Champ Reacts to Krassyuk Split

Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois 2 will headline a huge event at Wembley Stadium on July 19 for the undisputed heavyweight crown. Usyk vs Dubois 2 will see all four heavyweight belts up for grabs for the second time in 14 months, following Usyk defeating Tyson Fury in their first fight. As we edge closer to this historic showdown, George Groves has spoken to Casino Beats about the bout and reflected on the significance of Usyk’s split from his long-time promoter Alex Krassyuk.

George Groves Feels Krassyuk Exit Could Benefit Dubois in Rematch

Recently, the boxing world was shocked when Alex Krassyuk announced he and Usyk had parted ways: “Two young dreamers met each other to change the game,” Krassyuk wrote on social media. “Back in 2013, I gave you my word and kept it. At the time, no-one believed we were capable of achieving what we set out to do. But by the grace of God, we completed the mission impossible.”

Whether this split has any effect on Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs), remains to be seen. His trainer Sergey Lapin remains, so it’s difficult to see any impact on the day-to-day training of the Ukranian.

Former world champion George Groves sees the possible benefits for Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs): “Is it down to money? Nine times out of ten when people part ways at the end it’s down to money. Is it down to circumstances in their country or family or does he justnot want to do it anymore? I don’t know. But if I’m Daniel Dubois, I’m buzzing about that. That’s a massive change. At best there’s a rift, there’s a problem, there’s stress. And if it’s the end, it’s all coming to the end now.
