Top Chinese Boxers: Rising Stars and Established Fighters Shaping Their Future

Boxing in China began on the streets in the early 1900s, eventually leading to the rise of top Chinese boxers. Zou Shiming brought Olympic glory to the country with his bronze medal at the 2004 Games, followed by gold in the light flyweight division in 2008 and 2012. In the professional ranks, fighters like Xiong Zhao Zhong, Shiming, and Xu Can made their mark, winning world titles. Top Chinese Boxers: Looking at Active Fighters

Top Chinese Boxers: Zhilei Zhang

Zhilei Zhang (27-2-1, 22 KOs) is the most reconised active Chinese boxer. The heavy handed Zhoukou native has recorded two destructive wins against Joe Joyce. In his most recent fight, he dominated and stopped Deontay Wilder. “Big Bang” returns to action on February 22 against the unbeaten Agit Kabayel. A win for Zhang should leave him on the verges of a world title shot.

Xu Can

Xu Can (20-4, 5 KOs) was flying high following his wins against Shun Kubo and Manny Robles III in 2019. Following those wins he lost in a dramatic fight against Leigh Wood and then lost against vs. Brandon Leon Benitez. “Monster” has sinced bounced back, recording two stoppage wins and becoming the IBO international super featherweight champion.

DianXing Zhu

Minimumweight fighter DianXing Zhu (14-1, 12 KOs) has won nine fights in a row, since suffering his only career loss to Fangyong Zhang back in 2020. Only one more fight followed, before Zhu was out of the ring until 2023. He’s been incredibly active since returning and has defeated some good fighters, which has seen him climb the rankings. 2025 looks set to be another busy year for the Chengdu native.

Wei Song

The super flyweight division has the unbeaten Chinese fighter (5-0-1, 3 KOs) looking to make his way up the rankings. The 22-year-old Guangzhou fighter is the least experienced on our list. Since a draw against Cheng Liu, Song has stopped two undefeated fighters. Song will need to be active in 2025 and continue his good form, but the ability is there for him to make a serious splash in the super flyweight division.

Xiangxiang Sun

Xiangxiang Sun (17-0, 11 KOs) is the last fighter to make our list. The 32-year-old unbeaten super lightweight fighter is our dark horse. “Sniper” was 16-0 in 2019 before taking a sustained break from boxing and only returning in 2024, defeating MounBana Njoya by unanimous decision. There is little information on why he was absent for so long, but Covid would have seemingly played a part. An aggressive front-foot fighter who picks his punches well. It will be interesting to see just how far he can go.
