Three Potential Opponents for Tim Tszyu Next Fight
Tim Tszyu was riding high entering 2024, unbeaten and the WBO super welterweight champion, when he lost a bloody battle against Sebastian Fundora. Following a devastating second defeat to Bakhram Murtzaliev, many wrote off “The Soul Taker.” But with redemption on his mind, attention now turns to Tim Tszyu next fight — and while fans eagerly await his return to the ring, his name continues to generate buzz across everything from boxing forums to sports-themed casino games in New Zealand. Here are three potential opponents for the 30-year-old Australian fighter.
Tim Tszyu Next Fight: Looking at Three Options for ‘The Soul Taker’
Tim Tszyu Next Fight: Keith Thurman
A potential showdown with Keith Thurman appears to be the most likely option for Tim Tszyu’s next fight. The two were initially scheduled to meet in 2024, but an injury to Thurman forced him out of the bout. As a result, Fundora stepped in as a replacement.
Following his recent win over Joey Spencer, Tszyu had a message for Thurman: “Sign the contract big boy, sign the contract,” he said when asked about Thurman. “If the fans want it and we can bring a mega to Australia, the boys at No Limit, you know who to contact, and we’ll do a big show here.”
Jermell Charlo
Jermell Charlo has largely been inactive in recent years, with his one-sided loss to Canelo Alvarez his only fight since his dominating win against Brian Carlos Castano in 2022. Charlo was once the undisputed champion at super welterweight and recently posted on his Instagram account that the super welterweight division “is mine until I’m finished.”
Whether we see Charlo in the ring again remains to be seen, but a potential fight with Tszyu would be make-or-break for both. The loser of that bout would struggle to work their way back into the world title picture.
Sebastian Fundora 2
Their first meeting was a close battle, with Fundora edging a split-decision win. “The Towering Inferno” has shown adaptability and excels on the inside despite his size.
To win a rematch, Tszyu would need to work the body early while staying defensively sharp. He hasn’t been vocal about wanting the fight again, but the chance to avenge his defeat and unify could be too good to pass up.
