Mary Spencer (10-2, 6 KOs) will soon face Mikaela Mayer (21-2, 5 KOs) in a world title unification clash.

Their bout headlines a card promoted by Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM) and Top Rank at the Casino de Montréal in Québec. Fight fans around the world can catch the action live on Punching Grace. Those in the United States can do so on the Top Rank Classics channel on either Roku, Tubi, Vizio, or Pluto TV. Spencer’s WBA and the vacant WBO and WBC super welterweight world titles will be at stake.

Both women spoke at a press conference ahead of their October 30 contest. Below is some of what they had to say.

Mary Spencer vs. Mikaela Mayer press conference quotes

Mary Spencer

“I saw the odds,” said Spencer. “I know that I’m the underdog according to the bookies, but I mean, they get it wrong often. I don’t feel like an underdog. I feel like this fight is a gift.”

“I know where I’m at as far as training, where I’m at in my life, and I felt even before this fight was matched that the next opponent was going to be in trouble, whoever that was. And now the situation is even more exciting because it’s Mikaela, because of the style that she brings.”

Mikaela Mayer

“I’m really happy to be back here in Canada,” said Mayer. “I haven’t fought in Canada since my amateur days, back when I first learned of Mary Spencer. It’s great to be back.”

“I have a big job to do on Thursday night. It’s always been my goal in this sport to go and search out the best fights possible, the biggest names possible.”

Fight prediction

Both women spent a considerable amount of time in the amateur ranks, competing at the world championships and the Olympics. While Spencer is the more experienced at this weight, her opponent has shown a greater overall skillset. Mayer will be competing at super welterweight for the first time in her career, but should have the ability to outwork the reigning champion. Expect the American to win this via unanimous decision.
