Jarrett Hurd looking for big performance Saturday night

Saturday night will have multiple title fights in two different locations in the U.S. and we covered all of it, as part of our “Big Fight Weekend” podcast.

Host T.J. Rives is joined by several guests talk on the program about both the Top Rank show that will take place in Tucson, Arizona and the Premier Boxing Champions card in Fairfax, Virginia.

First, it’s a championship double-header in Tucson with a pair of rematches. In the co-main event, Emmanuel Navarrete will defend his WBO 122 lbs. title he won off former champion Isaac Dogboe in a scheduled 12-rounder. Navarrete scored a convincing one-sided 12 round unanimous decision last December in New York City to win his first world title.

The fight was particularly brutal on Dogboe, who took tremendous punishment, especially late in the fight with one of his eyes swollen just trying to last the distance. It was Dogboe’s first loss in 21 Pro fights and now he tries to recapture his title.

The main event will be for the WBC Junior Lightweight championship, as Miguel Berchelt will put his 130 lbs. title on the line in a 12-round rematch with Frankie Vargas. Berchelt stopped Vargas in 11 rounds back in January of 2017.

Meantime, across the country unbeaten IBF and WBO Junior Middleweight title holder Jarrett Hurd will make the fourth defense of his championship against top ranked contender Julian “J-Rock” Williams in a scheduled 12-round battle. Hurd is unbeaten at 23-0 with 16 knockouts, meanwhile, Williams is 26 – 1 – 1 with the lone defeat coming in a knockout loss in 2016 to champion, Jermall Charlo.

Michael Woods of NYFights.com, comes on the program to give his insight and analysis on these battles.

BigFightWeekend.com senior writer, Marquis Johns, is up next on the show with some thoughts on all of the action this weekend.

And finally, Antoine Williams promoter in Houston of “The Greatest of All Time Boxing Promotions” wraps up the podcast not only talking the fights in Arizona and Virginia, but also promoting his event this weekend in Texas.
