One of the greatest debates among boxing fans is who is the greatest fighter of all time. It’s a difficult decision for anyone to make with so many elite boxers to choose from. Speaking to Darren Barker on First Round TV, Tony Bellew revealed his top three picks for the greatest boxers of all time – and he had no doubt about them.

Tony Bellew Greatest Boxers List Explained

When asked by Darren Barker to name his four greatest boxers, Bellew said: “Okay, Roy Jones Jr is the first. The second is Muhammad Ali. The third is Sugar Ray Robinson, and the fourth is Sugar Ray Leonard.

“There’s certain people that are pushing that fourth spot, though. Floyd Mayweather has got every right to say he’s in there. Joe Calzaghe‘s got every right to say he’s in there. Andre Ward has got every right to say he’s in there.”

Bellew then explained his picks: “That fourth spot’s up for grabs. That Floyd Mayweather spot is up for grabs. I’d have Sugar Ray Leonard ahead of Mayweather, to be honest.

“The top three, I don’t even have to think about it. The top three that I named. Roy Jones Jr in his prime. No one’s ever seen anything like that in your life.

“And then number two, Muhammad Ali. It’s not just the boxing, it’s what he stood for. Muhammad Ali is the greatest man to ever put boxing gloves on. Usyk’s up there. Then it’s Sugar Ray Robinson, then I’ve gone Sugar Ray Leonard after Sugar Ray Robinson, because that fourth spot is up for grabs with Sugar Ray Leonard.”

Tony Bellew Greatest Boxers: Potential Candidates for Fourth Spot

Talking about his list, Bellew said: “I can’t dispute them first three. I’m sorry I can’t. No one’s touching that. But that fourth spot, there’s so many. Usyk can lay claim to it. Mayweather lays claim to it. Ray Leonard lays claim to it. Marvin Hagler can lay claim to it. Roberto Duran can lay claim to it. Ricardo Lopez can lay claim to it.”

“People don’t give him the credit he deserves. Ricardo Lopez is one of the greatest Mexicans ever – if not the greatest Mexican. Unbelievable,” added Bellew.

“Take your pick. Juan Manuel Marquez, Manny Pacquiao. There’s so many, so you can’tthe fourth spot is up for grabs. I don’t think anyone can touch the other three.”

While opinions will always vary, the Tony Bellew greatest boxers list provides some of the most elite boxers ever seen. Do you agree with Bellew’s picks?
