Shawn Porter has sights on Pacquiao after Spence

Shawn Porter faces off in a substantial welterweight showdown this Saturday against Errol Spence Jr. with one goal in mind.

To take on Manny Pacquiao and no one else.

If you followed the promotion leading up to this welterweight unification bout, that has been the driving force of this contest airing live this Saturday at Staples Center on Fox Pay-per-view.

Shawn Porter, in an interview with Sky Sports, is solely focused on getting past Spence to face the eight-division world champion.

“The fights that matter to me are the ones that will make me the best welterweight on the planet, and that starts with Errol Spence in my next fight,” Porter told Sky Sports. After that, I’d like to take on Manny Pacquiao.”

Porter in the interview was brushing aside fight ideas such as Amir Khan or a rematch with Kell Brook, who Porter fells have nothing left to offer in terms of a grudge match to their contest which he lost back in 2014.

The idea of Porter facing Khan was ideal at first, now for Porter isn’t very interested.

“Khan was a great fighter, and a fight between me and him a couple of years ago would’ve been certain to get people talking,” said Porter.

“He’s still about now, and he’s doing okay for himself, but he doesn’t have anything I want at the moment.”

Looking back on the fight, Porter still believes he won the contest with Brook but has left that fight in the past:

“It was a fight I thought I won, and probably should’ve won, but that night belonged to Kell Brook, and I had to go back and start again. Would I want to fight Brook again? I don’t think so.”

“His career has gone off in a totally different direction to mine after he beat me, and I don’t think me beating him now and leveling things up would bring a whole lot of credit.”

Not in the past is Spence this Saturday with a chance to take on Pacquiao in the future. Any other fight scenarios are just going to have to wait.
