Bomac McIntyre raises major Ryan Garcia question ahead of potential Devin Haney rematch

The career of Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs) was beginning to drift away following his no-contest with Devin Haney and his disappointing loss to Rolly Romero. It was difficult to see where Garcia would go. However, he recently bounced back, comprehensively beating Mario Barrios to become the WBC welterweight champion, and suddenly all is well again in the world of Ryan Garcia. 

It remains to be seen what comes next for Kingry, with his manager Guadalupe Valencia revealing a likely date for his fighter’s first title defence to Dan Rafael at Fight Freaks Unite. The rematch with Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KOs) refuses to go away, and renowned trainer Brian BoMac McIntyre has raised a serious question ahead of any potential rematch.

Garcia’s future was unclear following the end of his suspension for failing pre-fight and post-fight VADA drug tests, with Ostarine found in his urine. He returned to the ring last May as an overwhelming favourite against Rolly Romero, only to lose by unanimous decision.

Haney also appeared on the card, outpointing Jose Ramirez, but many were unconvinced by his performance. These two performances left the rumoured rematch with Haney in tatters.

Since then, Haney has beaten Brian Norman Jr to become the WBO welterweight champion, while Garcia won the WBC strap, bringing a potential rematch back to the table. It looks unlikely that a unification bout between the two will be next, with Haney set to face the WBA champion Rolly Romero on May 30.

When asked about a potential rematch between Garcia and Haney, and if it looks different, Bomac said: “I think a little different because that drug testing is going to be enforced. Will he have that stab? Will he have that quickness and power? That must be seen.
