Report- Errol Spence will battle Shawn Porter in August
A report out Tuesday says a Welterweight Unification fight between Errol Spence and Shawn Porter has been agreed to for this August.
Mike Coppinger, boxing insider for The Athletic, reported the details of the upcoming title bout between Spence the IBF champion and Porter the WBC champion, at 147 lbs.:
BREAKING: Sources tell @TheAthleticBOX that Errol Spence Jr. and Shawn Porter have finalized a deal for a welterweight title unification showdown this fall on pay-per-view. Going to be a great action fight. Details to follow over at @TheAthletic #SpencePorter

The fight has been rumored for several weeks, after what Coppinger had reported in early May that the fight would be in August at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. This as, both boxers are promoted by Haymon Boxing and Premier Boxing Champions.
Spence (25-0 21 KOs) is coming off of a March pay-per-view win over former World Lightweight Champion, Mikey Garcia, in an easy 12 round decision that was held at the Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium.
Meanwhile, Porter (30-2-1 17 KOs) won his last WBC Title bout with by decision in March over Yordenis Ugas in Carson, California.
The announcement of this fight has to be a disappointment to WBO Champion Terence Crawford, who had been hoping for a crack at Spence this fall or winter. Crawford is promoted by rival Top Rank Boxing and Bob Arum and is also undefeated. However, he is currently boxed out from the PBC Fighters.
This includes, the upcoming July pay-per-view WBA welterweight title showdown between seven division World Champ Manny Pacquiao and unbeaten WBA Welterweight champion Keith Thurman in a bout that will be held in Las Vegas, NV.
The obvious implication would be that the winner of the Thurman-Pacquiao fight will fight the winner of Spence-Porter.
Thurman already has a victory over Porter three years ago by unanimous 12-round decision.
Meanwhile Spence, a former US Olympian, is regarded as one of the top fighters in the sport. And it is an eventual reality that in order to get the top recognition, he will have to square off against and defeat Crawford somewhere down the line.
It just apparently won’t be in 2019.
