Mayweather out of exhibition, May-Pac 2 the reason

Last month, Floyd Mayweather was in talks for an exhibition match to take place in China slated for 2020 to have him back in the ring.

In a report by  The Sun out of the United Kingdom, Mayweather decided to back out of that fight, which would have taken place to open up a new casino in China. So the instant knee jerk reaction is, yep you guessed it:

“Let the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao 2 rumors reappear again.”

I’ve written on here and am still a firm believer that a glance at Mayweather’s Instagram account shows you a man that is doing everything and anything else in the world outside the squared circle. This time the angle of the rematch comes from Jay Lau, Hong Kong’s DEF Promotions director, and promoter.

According to Lau, it was under the opinion that Mayweather would finalize the terms. He now says the undefeated boxer is more interested in a rematch of his 2015 mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao.

“Mayweather came two times to Hong Kong, he spoke with my son Jayson, and we had communications, but now he is focussing the Pacquiao rematch,” Lau told Sun Sport.

“We were talking about an exhibition in China, a big event but not a recorded professional boxing fight. Something like Mayweather vs. Tenshin in Japan. We spoke a bit about doing a special fight in China, but halfway through, he turned to the Pacquiao rematch, so we stopped.

Lau mentioned that if the rematch was to happen, that the exhibition bout he had planned with Mayweather can take a backseat.

“I’ll let him do his thing with Manny, the rematch is the biggest thing that can happen, so why bother with the exhibition bout first? If that happens we will stop everything and let him do his thing first. I hope it does happen. It could be a big possibility that fight is the grand opening for the Japan casinos. The only thing I will say is he’s expensive, so we have to work really hard to get him back over to Asia – the offer is not easy.”

So Mayweather turned down the match in China too, in turn, “focus” on the rematch of the bout between the two boxing mega powers in 2015. I’ll believe it when I see it from Mayweather, but with 55-year-old Nigel Benn making a return to the ring after a 15-year hiatus, It’s going to take a lot for this to go away and a long time before this rumor keeps popping up.
