Before Martin Bakole vs. Jared Anderson: Carlos Takam

Bakole faced the durable Carlos Takam on October 28, 2023, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Congo-born fighter came out jabbing and soon began walking Takam down and constantly pressuring him. It was a slow start to the fight, with not much happening and then we reached round three.

Despite Takam’s braveness, Bakoles power was too much wobbling his Cameroon-born opponent. Bakole landed a big left uppercut right near the end of the third, with Takam walking back to his corner looking in trouble. The end of the fight came in the fourth with a thudding left to Takam’s body that hurt him. A heavy shot to the midsection preceded a big right hand, forcing the referee to wave the fight off.

Ihor Shevadzutskyi

On April 22, 2023, Bakole faced the then-unbeaten Ukrainian-born fighter Ihor Shevadzutskyi. The Ukrainian native started well working smartly behind his jab, which seemed to trouble Bakole in the first round.

Bakole stepped up his work rate in the second round and landed a huge left uppercut, which floored Shevadzutskyi. The heavy-handed Airdrie resident smelt blood and continued his assault. The body punches from Bakole were heavy and it was clearly affecting his opponent. Two heavy uppercuts and a right cross subsequently rocked the Ukrainian fighter.

The third round brought the end of the fight, where Bakole landed a series of heavy shots, with a big right cross leading to the referee waving the fight off.

Tony Yoka

On May 14, 2022, Bakole faced French heavyweight and former Olympic Gold Medalist Tony Yoka. The French heavyweight was knocked down early in the fight following two big right hands, which stunned the Paris crowd.

Bakole controlled the tempo throughout waking down Yoka and throwing heavy, telling combinations. The Congo-born fighter outworked the Frenchman in most rounds. Yoka couldn’t sustain anything and Bakole continued to counter effectively during the fight.

Despite Bakole dominating throughout, one judge inexplicably scored the fight 94-94. An impressive majority decision win for Yoka, which showed how effective his come-forward style is.
