Luis Ortiz and Charles Martin Kicked Off Words

Heavyweights Luis Ortiz and Charles Martin are closing out New Year’s Day in Hollywood, Florida, with the 1st pay-per-view of 2022 by Premier Boxing Champions courtesy of Fox.

The event coming from the Seminole Hard Rock and Casino will feature all heavyweights, and Martin (28-2-1,25 KOS) is ready to step into the ring against Ortiz. Charles Martin comes into this contest just glad someone isn’t afraid of the challenge.

“All I know is hard work. When I come into these sessions, I put in 100% effort,” Martin said on the media call Tuesday. “A lot of guys didn’t want to fight me. I tried to fight Dillian (Whyte), I tried to fight Andy (Ruiz), so I credit Ortiz for taking the fight.”

“I’m glad you all are willing to give me a chance,” Martin thanked host Ray Flores was on the call for a chance to fight again in 2022.

When asked by our previous guest Jake Donovan from Boxingscene (GO SUBSCRIBE!), on the media call about who’s next, Martin stated he was focused on Ortiz only, then he would “focus on other things.” My biggest takeaway was if you were wondering what is in “The Lebron James of Boxing” was eating in preparation for Ortiz, it isn’t anything good IMO as he cut out the quick meals.

“I used to eat fried food, fast food. I don’t eat any of that anymore. No sugars,” Martin stated about his difference in diet.

Taste buds without a hint of any fried food? No thanks.

What was Ortiz saying?

Ortiz meanwhile, will have the home-field advantage as the Miami native will have a short drive up the I-95 for this contest and spoke about it.

“I’m always motivated. Being far and away from home. To be honest, it’s the tougher cause of the training camp cause of how intense it is,” Ortiz stated on the call.

Ortiz (32-2, 27 KOs), at age 42, was asked at this point if this was the end of the line for him. “King King” wasn’t having any retirement talk as he still hopes to be the first Cuban heavyweight champion.

Noone is ever going to take away my dream from me. I’m focused on taking on Charles Martin and to keep going, ” Ortiz stated.

“You can. My mentality is to be ready and to take on any challenger that comes my way. It is as simple as that.”

Well, see as these two looks to get back into the mix with the big names at heavyweight. A win for either guy will do just that.
