Leo Santa Cruz seeking to face Gervonta Davis
In a report to ESPN Deportes,WBA featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz has stated that he would be interested in moving up in weight to take on Gervonta Davis. He stated in an interview with ESPN that he isn’t afraid of Davis’s power due to that he never had any fighter be able to put pressure on him.
“I told them I wanted three fights this year and we started training, the truth is that I do not have anything on the table, and seeing that all the champions are busy, maybe we can do this fight at 130 pounds, see how we feel, and maybe Towards the end of the year we can face the unification in 126 or Gervonta Davis in 130, “Santa Cruz told ESPN.
Leo’s goal, he said, is to unify the titles with Gary Russell Jr., Óscar Valdez and Josh Warrington, but was definitely interested in Gervonta.
“What I want are the big challenges, Mikey went up to 147 pounds, he was not afraid, I’m not afraid of anyone either, Gervonta is fast and strong, dangerous, that’s why I want that challenge, to show what I’m capable of doing”.

Leo said that while he has received some criticism for the opposition he has faced, he has said that his team is ready for whoever they place in front of him.
“There are many fighters who take care of the record, I do not, I am willing to fight with anyone even though they say I take care of myself, what happened is that there have not been agreements, but I have always sought those fights, at the time I had said yes to Guillermo Rigondeaux, but there was no agreement, here there is no fear and we are going to prove it, “he stated to ESPN.
Santa Cruz (36-1-1, 19 KOs) is very confident that there is a good chance of fighting Davis and to give the bell in search of the fourth title in a row.
“I think my experience and the number of shots he’s shooting will give Davis a lot of trouble, I feel like he has not fought with someone who puts pressure on him, he’s always knocked out, but if you take him into the distance he’s going to fight. is not the fight with him in 130 (pounds), then we will seek the unification in 126. But this fight in June is feasible that we do it in 130”, he stated.
We’ll see how this unfolds as his next bout in June will be at possibly at 130 with an unknown opponent at this time.
