After a brilliant win for Bilal Fawaz, it was time for Leigh Wood (29-4, 17 KOs) vs Josh Warrington (32-5-1, 8 KOs) 2 in the super featherweight division.

Wood enjoyed a strong first round, landing the better punches, picking Warrington off as he rushed in throughout the opening round. Warrington had more success in the second round, but Wood still landed the more telling punches.

Warrington continued to look edgy in the fourth, and the best punches came from Wood. Warrington enjoyed success in the fifth, landing some nice hooks, backing Wood up. The Nottingham fighter reasserted his dominance in the sixth round, picking his punches and controlling the bout over the next few rounds.

Wood continued to control the fight over the final few rounds, frustrating Warrington, popping his shots off and controlling the tempo. The fight went to the judges’ scorecards, which read 119-109, 119-110, and 117-111, all in favour of Leigh Wood, who delivered a tactically smart and efficient performance.

Ishmael Davis vs Bilal Fawaz

In the chief support to Leigh Wood vs Josh Warrington 2, Bilal Fawaz (11-1-1, 3 KOs) challenged Ishmael Davis (15-4, 6 KOs) for Davis’ British and Commonwealth super welterweight titles.

Both fighters had their moments in the opening round, but the cleaner work came from Davis, who settled well with his jab. Davis continued his positive start in the second round, picking his punches well and dictating the tempo of the fight. Over the next couple of rounds, Davis continued to control the fight, using his jab effectively from the southpaw stance.

Davis stayed composed over the next few rounds, despite Fawaz’s best efforts to unsettle him. He continued to work off his jab, leaving Fawaz unable to close the distance effectively. The 37-year-old began to have more success in the seventh round, finally closing the distance and picking his punches well. Fawaz enjoyed more success in the eighth round. The London fighter continued to use his legs well and successfully tagged Davis more. 

Fawaz looked like a different fighter from around the sixth round, countering impressively and picking his shots well. The accuracy in the second half of the fight was highly impressive from Fawaz. Davis tired, while the London fighter won round after round in the second half of the fight.

Davis bossed the first few rounds, but Fawaz flipped the fight on its head. It ultimately went to the judges’ scorecards, which read 114-114, while the other two cards favoured the strong end to the fight for Fawaz, scoring it 115-113 and 115-114. Bilal Fawaz is now the British and Commonwealth super welterweight champion, winning by majority decision.

Dave Allen vs Karim Berredjem

Up next in the heavyweight division was Dave Allen (25-8-2, 20 KOs) vs Karim Berredjem (12-11, 3 KOs).

Allen started on the front foot and quickly landed a big clubbing right hand, knocking down the clearly mismatched Berredjem. He followed it up, landing some heavy-looking uppercuts. Another big right hand soon followed, flooring the Frenchman. Berredjem’s corner quickly threw in the towel with Allen winning by first-round TKO.

Sandy Ryan vs Karla Ramos Zamora

Up next was Sandy Ryan (9-3-1, 3 KOs) vs Karla Ramos Zamora (12-11-2, 4 KOs) for the vacant WBC super lightweight title.

It was a busy opening round from Zamora as she looked to put pressure on Ryan and work her body. Ryan put some nice shots together over the next two rounds, but the constant pressure continued from Zamora. The Mexican finished the third round on top, letting her hands go in the final 30 seconds.

The fifth round was much better for Ryan as she moved in and out, landing the better punches. The seventh round saw both fighters trade punches for the entire two minutes. The pressure from Zamora was relentless, but Ryan continued to land the snappier punches. Ryan ended the final round on top, moving her head well and showcasing her variety of punches. The judges’ scorecards read 95-95, while the other two had it 97-93 for Ryan, who is the new WBC super lightweight world champion, winning by majority decision.

Leo Atang vs Dan Garber

In the first fight of the Leigh Wood vs Josh Warrington 2 main undercard, it was the highly regarded Leo Atang (5-0, 5 KOs) vs Dan Garber (11-7, 2 KOs) in the heavyweight division.

Atang started with a real purpose, and everything he threw was with real spite. He soon caught Garber with a left hook, and Atang quickly pounced, landing a series of heavy shots, leaving Garber in all kinds of trouble. The referee soon jumped in to wave the fight off, and despite the protesting of Garber, that fight was only going one way. It was an impressive first-round TKO victory for Atang.

Tiah Mai Ayton vs Catherine Tacone Ramos

In the final fight of the Leigh Wood vs Josh Warrington 2 prelims, it was the exciting Tiah Mai Ayton (5-0, 4 KOs) vs Catherine Tacone Ramos (9-4-1, 2 KOs) in the bantamweight division.

Ayton began on the front foot, but Ramos showed her intent, landing two eye-catching punches during the first round. It was a much better third round from Ayton, as she applied more effective pressure against the elusive Ramos.

Ayton began to put her shots together more effectively as the fight progressed, but Ramos kept firing back; the heavier punches from Ayton were the difference. The referee’s scorecard was 77-75 in favour of “The Star Girl.”

Molly McCann vs Beata Dudek

Up next was Molly McCann (3-0, 1 KO) vs Beata Dudek (7-9, 4 KOs) in the super bantamweight division. 

McCann looked sharp in the opening round, moving well and picking her punches. Dudek had her moments in the second round, but McCann applied effective pressure and landed the more eye-catching punches.

The Liverpudlian fighter ended the second round well on top, landing some heavy punches, leaving Dudek glad to hear the bell. Dudek showed bravery throughout and had limited success, but the constant pressure from McCann and hurtful combinations ensured she dominated. The Liverpool fighter was awarded the 60-55 victory the bout.

Joe Howarth vs Dan Booth

In the opening fight on the Leigh Wood vs Josh Warrington 2 fight card, it was Joe Howarth (15-2, 4 KOs) vs Dan Booth (6-19, 3 KOs) in the super welterweight division.

Howarth started well in the opening round, dominating with his jab, controlling the distance and tempo impressively. As the round progressed, he started to land some eye-catching shots off the jab. Howarth began to vary his punches well in the second round, punishing any time Booth let his hands go.

The domination continued over the remaining two rounds, with Howarth gaining a deserved 40-36 win.
