At the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, November 9, Jaron “Boots” Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs) defeated Karen Chukhadzhian (24-3, 13 KOs), retaining his IBF welterweight title in front of his hometown crowd. The entire Matchroom Boxing card was shown live on DAZN in over 200 countries. The opening round saw Chukhadzhian punch well between “Boots” throwing shots but the Philly fighter looked comfortable despite getting tagged in the first round by a left hook. Ennis looked light on his feet and started the round well with his jab.
The second round saw the challenger continue to land with the left hook, but Ennis looked untroubled. The champ is picking his shots well but isn’t using his reach advantage enough.

The third round saw Chukhadzhian have his moments before “Boots” began to dominate and take over the round, mixing his shots well. The challenger had more success in round four with the right hand. Ennis needs to fight on the outside and control the tempo.
The fifth round saw “Boots” put his foot on the gas and land a short left hand which put the Ukrainian in trouble and soon forced him to take a knee after Ennis unleashed an impressive flurry of punches. Huge round for the Philly fighter.

Over the next few rounds, Chukhadzhian continued to punch well with Ennis but when “Boots” lets his hands go, he is producing the more eye-catching work. The tenth round was a strong round for “Boots” as he picked his shots well, with Chukhadzhian having a point taken away for holding.
The final round was a good round for the Ukrainian who landed some heavy shots. It was ultimately a frustrating night for “Boots” but he’s done more than enough to get the victory. As both fighters met in the centre of the ring, the judge’s scorecards were read 119-107, 117-109 and 116-110, all in favour of Ennis, giving him the unanimous decision victory.
