Jared Anderson Victorious in Dull Affair

Jared Anderson (17-0, 15 KOs) remained undefeated but had to deal with an incredibly passive Ryad Merhy (32-3, 26 KOs).

Scores were 100-90 (x2) and 99-91 for Anderson, who won via unanimous decision. The fight was the main event of an April 13 Top Rank card at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, TX. Viewers in the United States were able to catch the action live on ESPN, ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes.

Both fighters used the opening round to get a feel of each other, with Anderson inching towards Merhy. While “The Real Big Baby” was constantly throwing his jab, not much was coming from his opponent. Despite Anderson picking up the activity, Merhy simply refused to engage, only throwing and landing the occasional shot. The crowd made their displeasure known for most of the fight.

The Belgian fighter was passive for virtually the entire fight. Anderson threw every punch he had in his arsenal but was unable to string together a combination that troubled the Belgian. As a result, Merhy kept moving on the back foot and staying at least an arm’s length away from Anderson. Such was the lack of action in this fight that Top Rank have not posted any highlights on their X account as this piece was published.

Efe Ajagba and Robson Conceição Victorious

In an entertaining heavyweight contest, Efe Ajagba (20-1, 14 KOs) won a split decision against Guido Vianello (12-2-1, 10 KOs). While one judge saw it 96-94 for Vianello, the other two saw it 96-94 for Ajagba. There was a lot of back-and-forth in this 10-rounder, but in the end, the Nigerian did enough to convince two judges that he won.

Robson Conceição (18-2-1, 9 KOs, 1 NC) defeated Jose Guardado (15-2-1, 5 KOs, 1 NC) by seventh-round technical knockout. The time of stoppage for this eight-round super featherweight fight was 2:27. Guardado went down from a body shot with plenty of time remaining in the seventh. A barrage of punches from Conceição sent his opponent down once again. At that point, referee Jon Schorle waved off the clash.

Other Undercard Results

In middleweight action, Julian Delgado won his professional debut via unanimous decision against Juan Tamez (1-1, 0 KOs). Scores for the four-round bout were 40-36 (x2) and 39-37.

Ruben Villa (22-1, 7 KOs) defeated Cristian Chacón (22-7-1, 11 KOs) via unanimous decision in a 10-round featherweight clash. Scores were 98-92 (x2) and 97-93.

John Rincon (9-0, 2 KOs) won a majority decision against Yainel Alvarez (3-4-2, 1 KO) in a six-round welterweight bout. While one judge had it 57-57, the other two saw it 59-55 and 58-56 for Rincon.

Abdullah Mason (13-0, 11 KOs) won via technical knockout against Ronal Ron (14-6, 11 KOs) in an eight-round lightweight fight. Ron went to the canvas in rounds one and three. A barrage of punches for Mason caused referee Laurence Cole to end proceedings at 1:02 of the fourth.

Charly Suarez (17-0, 9 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Luis Coria (15-7, 7 KOs). Scores for the eight-round super featherweight bout were 77-74 (x2) and 76-75. Suarez went to the canvas once in round eight.

Alejandro Guerrero (13-4, 10 KOs) defeated recent Top Rank signee Jalen Walker (12-1-1, 10 KOs) via seventh-round stoppage. The eight-round super featherweight fight was stopped at the 1:35 mark after Walker’s corner intervened. Guerrero also sent his opponent to the canvas in round two.

Ali Feliz won his professional debut against Anthony Woodson III (1-2, 1 KO) via second-round technical knockout. The four-round heavyweight contest came to an end at the 1:16 mark.
