Floyd Mayweather “to fight Chinese boxer in 2020′

All of you wanting to see Floyd Mayweather in the ring again will get your chance in 2020.

Will it be Manny Pacquiao? Not so much. It’s going to be another exhibition contest in China next year.

South China Mourning Post reported the Mission Hills Group had invited media to attend a press conference in Haikou, Hainan on September 18 to announce Mayweather’s “First fight in China.”

“The press conference will announce that Mayweather will hold a boxing match in China next year,” a spokesperson told the Post in the report. “We have already got the Hainan government’s temporary approval for this event.

“But everything needs to be confirmed with Floyd as well. The details are not 100 percent confirmed yet. We are in the process of negotiating details with Mayweather’s management.”

What this means to everyone out of the loop is that Hainan government are going to repeat what Mayweather did in Japan when he received 9 million dollars in an exhibition bout where he destroyed Japanese kickboxing prodigy Tenshin Nasukawa in Saitama, just outside Tokyo, on New Year’s Eve. In that contest, Mayweather dropped Nasukawa three times in the first round before Nasukawa’s corner threw in the towel ending the fight.

Not only was there no official date set for the bout other than 2020, but The Post also reported there would be a recruitment campaign held in China to find Mayweather’s opponent.

“This match aims to enhance the friendship between two powerful nations through boxing, gaining popularity for Hainan in the role of an international tourism island and achieving Mission Hills’ vision of bringing world-class sports events to Haikou,” the media invitation added.

Mayweather was set to tour the Missions Hills Resort Haikou in the afternoon on September 17 before a private welcome dinner. On September 18, there will then be a signing ceremony with a press conference and a group interview. It’s not all a vacation as the 50-0 fighter will also tour Mission Hills Movie Town before holding a boxing lesson for students.

Mayweather was in Hong Kong in June to discuss another possible mega-money exhibition fight with local boxing promoters DEF Promotions. He also visited Tokyo earlier this summer, where Mayweather said he hoped to fight more bouts in Japan.

Mayweather making a return into the ring talk won’t go away even though a glance at his Instagram shows him doing everything but that. Let’s see if this trio leads to his “first fight in China” as these exhibitions are the only way we’ll see ‘Money May’ lace up the gloves.
