Eddie Hearn names the ‘biggest star in world boxing’

On December 19, at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Anthony Joshua defeated Jake Paul by sixth-round knockout. It was a huge event, with the main event difficult to watch throughout. Paul seemed unwilling to engage, while Joshua’s timing looked off. The Brit eventually got to his man, landing a big right hand, with Paul unable to beat the referee’s count. Eddie Hearn has spoken to Ariel Helwani, reflecting on the success of the night and Joshua’s standing in world boxing.

Eddie Hearn reflects on Anthony Joshua defeating Jake Paul

The knockout punch from Joshua came in the sixth round, breaking Paul’s jaw in two places. When reflecting on the win and the success of the night for the team, Hearn said:

“I actually quite like the fact that we got some rounds, because we got a chance to work with a new team. It was a wonderful experience for us.

“AJ made a fortune. His star power in the US has gone through the roof… He’s been an icon over here amongst the ladies for many decades, but now in the US, as well… He’s one of the most recognizable figures in sport.

“It ticked every box, right? Profile, money, activity. It couldn’t have gone better for us.”

Talking about the win over Paul and how this affects AJ’s standing in the boxing world, Hearn said:

“This changes everything. People don’t like it when I say, there is absolutely no question that Anthony Joshua is the biggest star in world boxing.”

“Eddie Hearn discusses Anthony Joshua’s stardom following Friday’s win.”

Attention has now turned to what comes next for Joshua. The Fury fight dangles in the background, but it’s expected to be in early 2026 before a potential clash with The Gypsy King.

A fight for AJ in February has been mentioned, but 2026 looks set to be an interesting year for the Brit as he targets another world title shot.
