Conor Benn ‘filled with excitement’ for Zuffa Boxing journey – Dana White reacts

Conor Benn has been with Matchroom Boxing since turning professional in 2016. There have been huge highs and the lowest lows, but now Benn has announced that the relationship is over, and he has left Matchroom and signed with Zuffa Boxing.

Conor Benn announces Matchroom departure

Conor Benn’s career was shattered in the build-up to a planned showdown with Chris Eubank Jr in 2022. The fight was cancelled due to failed drug tests from Benn, leading to a protracted campaign from him to prove his innocence, before he was allowed to fight again.

His first fight back was a memorable bout, where he and Eubank Jr went toe-to-toe, with Eubank coming out on top. Benn dominated the rematch and has been linked with a number of big fights since.

Given his long history with Matchroom, it was surprising to read Benn’s following statement:

“First and foremost, I want to thank Eddie and the entire team at Matchroom for everything they’ve done for me over the past decade.

From guiding me when I first turned pro, to headlining stadium shows. They were not only with me for those highlight moments but stood shoulder to shoulder with me during the tough times.

It’s been a journey beyond anything we could have imagined, and for their belief, support, and guidance, I will always be truly grateful, but Zuffa Boxing presented me with an opportunity I simply couldn’t refuse. I’d love Eddie to continue to be part of my team and for our partnership to evolve in this new chapter.

I’m filled with excitement and hunger for what’s ahead with Zuffa Boxing. I want the legacy fights, the biggest nights, the biggest stages. I fear no man at any weight, and I’m ready to give the fans the fights they’ve been calling for. I’m in my prime, and together we have bold, ambitious plans.”

The future for Conor Benn: Dana White reacts

Dan Rafael is reporting that Benn has only signed a one-fight, eight-figure deal, which will see the “Destroyer” fight in the United Kingdom in April or May.

Benn had become a staple of DAZN due to the magnitude of his two fights with Eubank and his popularity since; however, Benn (24-1, 14 KOs) will now be fighting under the Zuffa banner on Paramount+, leaving Zuffa’s Dana White excited by his latest signing:

“Conor Benn is an absolute beast and a superstar,” Zuffa Boxing promoter Dana White said. “He shows up every time and destroys people, and now some of the best fighters in the world are calling him out. He’s ready for a world title next and I can’t wait to see him compete in Zuffa Boxing. He’s going to be a huge addition to a growing stable of very talented boxers.”
