Bad Blood: Riley vs. Lawal

Riley will take a clear step up in opposition against Lawal, which will be his first fight since his shut-out points win over Nathan Quarless in September 2023, which gave him the English cruiserweight title.

Riley appears full of confidence ahead of the fight: “I look forward to the first notable name in my career being ticked off. I respect Lawal as a former British champion and as we know that’s a goal of mine so this is a perfect level check.”

Lawal will be eager to get back to winning ways after losing his British cruiserweight title to Isaac Chamberlain by a unanimous decision, with the judges scoring the bout 118-111 x2 and 119-111.

He will present a physical challenge to Riley, with his punching power posing a risk to his unbeaten opponent. He also has good reach, meaning his Hackney-born opponent will need to close the distance effectively and work on the inside. Riley has a great ring IQ, picks his punches exceptionally well, and throws fast, accurate combinations. He punches with variation, which will cause Lawal problems, who can be one-paced and slow to react at times.

BOXXER CEO Ben Shalom spoke on the fight: “It really is a wildcard contest. I’m expecting an all-action fight between the two Londoners on Sunday, March 31 at the O2.”
