Anvi Yildirim looks to make a statement on the Spence-Porter card

Avni Yildirim off his controversial loss for the WBC super-middleweight title against Anthony Dirrell back in February is looking to get back a second shot at that belt. He starts taking on first Carlos Galvan on September 28th on the Errol Spence-Shawn Porter undercard. For Yildirim, a victory past Galvan will put him back in the mix as he’ll take on the winner of the David Benavidez and Dirrell as Dirrell defends the WBC world title against the undefeated challenger.

The way the decision went down against Dirrell, Yildirim thinks that he deserved to win against Dirrell. The referee stopped the match due to Dirrell’s cut at the 10th round in what seemed like a momentum shift for Yildirim before the stoppage occurred.

“Galvan’s bout will be a good preparation for the championship match,” said Yildirim in an interview with Boxingscene.com. “I don’t underestimate my opponent. I will work hard as always. That’s why they called me ‘Mr. Robot’ – I work like a machine. The opponent is not important. My work ethic will be the same. It’s not easy to win in the United States for us. I want to bring another glory to my country in September. My actual target is the winner of Benavidez vs. Dirrell fight.”

Yildirim’s manager, Ahmet Oner, also chimed in to BoxingScene also with the following:

“We never underestimate our opponents, we respect Galvan and his team. He is Colombian and Colombian fighters have punch power. We have to be careful. He fought with good guys and gained experience. However Avni also has good experience in the United States, he won against former world champion Glen Johnson. I expect a comfortable and satisfying win from Avni. I don’t want to think about any other outcome. Avni has gotten used to this atmosphere already, and I am confident,” said Yildirim’s manager Ahmet Oner.

Let’s see if Yildirim will rebound and advance in this mini WBC tourney they set up for the super middleweight belt.
