Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul — Frank Warren weighs in on fight announcement
When 2025 began, I, like many, never had Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) on my boxing bingo card. On November 17, the impossible was announced, and the event dubbed “Judgement Day” is set for December 19 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.
This huge event will stream live on Netflix at no additional cost to its 300+ million members. Following the announcement, Frank Warren revealed his honest thoughts in an interview with Boxing Social.
Frank Warren gives honest reaction to Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul
In a press release from MVP, it was confirmed that AJ vs Paul will be a sanctioned heavyweight bout, over eight three-minute rounds with 10oz gloves.
The main question is, what does Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) have left? Is the desire there? Is the punch resistance there after the Daniel Dubois loss? These questions will be answered on December 19.
When asked for his thoughts on the confirmation that Jake Paul will face Anthony Joshua, Warren said:
“Jake Paul’s had a lot of accusations over the years, for a guy who’s had no amateur fights. What’s he had? About 10 or 12 fights? I’m not sure what he’s had. And you know, look at the opposition he’s had and people saying when’s he gonna fight somebody?
“He stepped up, he’s stepping up to a two-time world champion, a genuine heavyweight, a proper heavyweight champion, and an active fighter, and this is a big moment for him, and you got to take your hat off to him for that.
“This fight as regarding AJ, I’m sure AJ wants a fight back after that unbelievable loss he had against Daniel Dubois? That was quite an emphatic loss. He wants to come back and dip his toe in the water. He’s gonna get paid a lot of money for this. This fight’s gonna generate a lot of money.”
“Jake Paul’s gonna be a massive underdog against a big favourite. Big odds on favourite. Can he do it or not?
“This is a car crash, and people will watch it, cause that’s what people do at car crashes. That’s what this is,” added Warren.
Jake Paul vows to cause a huge upset on December 19
Jake Paul revealed his determination to cause a huge upset on December 19:
“This isn’t an AI simulation. This is Judgment Day,” said Jake Paul. “A professional heavyweight fight against an elite world champion in his prime. When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears, and no one can deny me the opportunity to fight for a world title. To all my haters, this is what you wanted. To the people of the United Kingdom, I am sorry. On Friday, December 19, under the lights in Miami, live globally only on Netflix, the torch gets passed and Britain’s Goliath gets put to sleep. I KNOWWWW YOU GOT EM PICKED HAHAHHA”
The former two-time unified heavyweight champion Joshua also had his say:
“Jake or anyone can get this work. No mercy,” said Joshua. “I took some time out and I’m coming back with a mega show. It’s a big opportunity for me. Whether you like it or not, I’m here to do massive numbers, have big fights and break every record whilst keeping cool, calm and collected. Mark my words, you’ll see a lot more fighters take these opportunities in the future. I’m about to break the internet over Jake Paul’s face.”
