Amanda Serrano On Taylor Mega-Bout “We’re Changing The Sport”
On Wednesday afternoon in New York, the kickoff press conference for arguably the most lucrative ladies World Title boxing match ever coming in April got things underway. And, the seven-division world champion Amanda Serrano knows the significance of what’s about to happen in challenging Undisputed World Lightweight champion at Katie Taylor.
Serrano and Taylor met with the media at Madison Square Garden as part of the Matchroom Boxing promotion for their upcoming showdown. And, Serrano expressed both gratitude for the opportunity, while enjoying the moment as well.

“Yeah. Women? We’re changing the sport. I’m super happy. I’m super glad. I’m honored to share the ring with Katie Taylor. She’s a great champion and we’re gonna prove who’s the pound for pound best, because everyone’s been asking for her (to fight),” Serrano said.
As we wrote previously, the two have agreed to meet in the world’s most famous arena coming April 30th and headlining on DAZN streaming worldwide. Taylor-Serrano has been nearly two years in the making, as it was scuttled during the early part of the Covid 19 pandemic in the Summer of 2020. Now, the 42-1-1 (30 KOs) ladies title-holding icon finally gets her shot at the 20-0 (6 KOs) Lightweight queen, who’s making her sixth defense.
Serrano was also thinking her new promotional team, Most Valuable Promotions headed by YouTube / social media star turned boxer, Jake Paul. Paul has momentum and is gaining success within the sport.
And, he took the generous step of making Serrano a featured fighter on each of his last two pay per views, including the most recent one in December. That’s when Serrano decisioned Mariam Gutierrez in dominant fashion over 10 rounds. That bout came as the co-feature of Paul’s rematch with Tyron Woodley at the sold-out Amalie Arena in downtown Tampa and aired on Showtime’s pay-per-view.
Paul has raised Serrano’s profile considerably and helped her financial leverage for the bout with Taylor. And, he spoke on Wednesday at MSG, as well,
🗣️ “This is one of the biggest fights ever. Today is about Amanda and Katie, they deserve this stage!“ – @jakepaul #TaylorSerrano #ForHistory

Now, the buildup has begun and Serrano and Paul will do their part to hype things in the U.S. And, make no mistake, the Irish born Taylor has a large following already in the U.K. A following that will be stoked by Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn for this one.
