McCullagh to take on Rodriguez in Newcastle

The undefeated  Tyrone “White Chocolate” McCullagh takes on the Alvaro Rodriguez (9-2-1, 1 KO) in the main event of the next #MTKFightNight at Eagles Community Arena in Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, North East England.  The southpaw will defend his WBO European super-bantamweight championship on the fight card that can be seen live streamed on iFL TV channel on YouTube this Friday, May 3rd.

The southpaw McCullagh is more motivated than ever in this upcoming bout. He stated in a press release:

“There’s a lot of drive with any title fight but this is a very different situation to fighting for a vacant title now.

“I’m the champion and he’s coming to dethrone me. It’s not going to happen because I’ve worked far too hard in this camp. The belt stays with me on Friday.

“This camp, I’ve worked on relaxing a bit more. I don’t want to be a million miles an hour all the time. It works for me but I can save energy and be a bit more cute. I believe you’ll see a more relaxed version of me now.

“It’s up to my management how many times I defend this belt. I love having it and being European champion but I do want a world title shot sooner rather than later so this could be my last defence.”

McCullagh (12-0, 6 KOs) is looking to stay undefeated against Rodriguez. This upcoming 10 round bout is on the heels of his last two where he has won by unanimous decision. He acquired the WBO title against Josh Kennedy in his last contest last October in Belfast. Rodriguez from Madrid, Spain is coming off a victory in his native land by unanimous decision against Artiz Pardal.

Joining McCullagh on a the bill at a newly-built arena are fellow north-east England boxing heroes such as Simon Vallily, Troy Williamson, Darren Reay, Chad Ellis, Jay Hughes and Adam Gair.
