Emotional Tim Tszyu Breaks Silence After Heartbreaking Defeat to Fundora
On July 19, live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Sebastian Fundora successfully defended his WBC super welterweight title by defeating Tim Tszyu. The future looks bright for “The Towering Inferno,” but questions remain – what comes next for Tszyu? The Aussie has reacted to his defeat in a video posted on his personal Instagram.

Tim Tszyu Shares Emotional Message After July 19 Loss
Their first fight was a bloody battle, but the rematch was equally entertaining, with Fundora scoring a first-round knockdown, courtesy of a straight left. From that point on, Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) largely remained in control, landing some eye-catching combinations. Tszyu did have his moments, but Fundora just kept coming, with the corner of Tszyu withdrawing their man at the end of round seven.
It’s difficult to think of where Tszyu (25-3, 18 KOs) goes from here. He’s lost 3 out of his last four, with two defeats coming by stoppage. In the video posted on his Instagram, Tszyu said: I was just thinking about when I first started the sport. What I said was I wanted to get to the very, very top, and I didn’t mind crashing and burning on the way up. Sitting here now, we did, we did crash and burn, but we still move forward.
“Some things go your way, some don’t. What happened last weekend – it didn’t go my way, but we still move forward. Sometimes it’s who you become in the pursuit of greatness rather than the result itself. And sitting here now, I’m proud to say that I’ve become a different person on my pursuit of greatness.”
Tim Tszyu Sends Message to Fans
Signing off the video, a clearly emotional Tszyu added: “And to anyone watching, no matter what you do, always find the goal of becoming someone different, of becoming motivated, and it’s never gonna be easy, but it will all pay off. Appreciate everyone’s support. Sorry, I couldn’t get the victory. He was just the better man, and I’ll have to accept that, even though it’s hard, but I gave it my all, and yeah, we move on. The goal doesn’t change, and yeah, I hope you’re all well.”
