Title fights from around the world – Sarah Bormann vs. Yuko Kuroki controversy
Today, boxing world title fights take place around the globe and are more accessible to watch than ever before. Sometimes, championship bouts do not receive as much attention and go underreported. Big Fight Weekend commits to writing about boxing news, previews and recaps. As such, the site now has a recurring segment on championship bouts from around the world from the past week.
The focus of these pieces will be on clashes ranging from atomweight to heavyweight that had the WBA, WBC, IBF, and/or WBO titles on the line. This week’s edition of “Title Fights From Around the World” consists of one recap. Over in Germany, a minimumweight world title unification ended in a disputed decision.

Sarah Bormann vs. Yuko Kuroki fight recap
Sarah Bormann (21-1, 7 KOs) is now a unified titlist after winning a split decision against Yuko Kuroki (25-9-2, 10 KOs).
While one judge had the action 97-93 for Kuroki, the other two had it 97-93 and 96-95 for Bormann. With the victory she is now the WBA and WBO minimumweight world champion. Bormann had won the WBO title in December last year against Jennifer Meza and defended once prior to the Kuroki fight. She now adds the WBA title to her collection.
Bormann-Kuroki took place on an October 18 Dream Boxing card at the Wandsbeker Sporthalle in Hamburg, Germany. Fight fans around the world could catch the action live on DAZN.
Kuroki was the faster of the two and used that to her advantage. She stayed at range and was comfortably landing shots from that distance. Bormann pressed forward the entire fight which did cause Kuroki some problems. The German boxer was repeatedly warned for her fouls, such as hitting on the break in round four, but never deducted any points.
Kuroki used her footwork to counter her opponent’s aggression and appeared to be racking up the rounds. Bormann continued to be aggressive, but it also saw her lead with her head. She was cut by the bridge of her nose due to an accidental head clash in round nine. Despite Kuroki’s better work over 10, two of the judges had Bormann as the winner, a decision that was booed by those in attendance.
