Ryan Garcia Returns To Winning Ways
Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) returned to winning ways with an eighth-round knockout of Oscar Duarte (26-2-1, 21 KOs).
The fight headlined a card at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX. DAZN aired the Golden Boy Promotions event broadcast around the world. For Garcia, this was his first fight since a seventh-round knockout loss to Gervonta Davis in April.

Ryan Garcia Returns to Winning Ways
Garcia would stay on the outside during the fight, allowing Duarte to chase him around the ring. Despite this, “King Ry” would get hit with the occasional looping shot from his opponent. From the opening round, however, it was evident that Garcia was the quicker fighter. He would also use the jab in the early stages of the fight to keep the Mexican at bay.
Duarte was able to close the distance in the middle rounds. To avoid getting hit – “King Ry” would turn his back to his opponent. Duarte would counteract this by doubling up on the left hand.
A left hook to the head marked the beginning of the end. Halfway through round eight, Garcia landed that shot and began throwing a barrage of punches that sent his opponent to the canvas. Referee James Green waved the fight off at the 2:51 mark after deeming Duarte to have failed to beat the count. The Parral, México, native protested the decision but to no avail.
Post-Fight Comments
“He [Oscar Duarte] was a strong fighter, he took a good punch,” said Garcia. “He’s a Mexican fighter like me. I hit him with some hard shots and he just kept coming and it was tough. But, I started using my legs. Derrick [James, Garcia’s trainer] was like ‘man, start using your legs a little bit. He’s gonna open up a shot’ and it literally did that.”

In a ten-round lightweight fight, Floyd Schofield got a first-round stoppage against Ricardo Torres (17-8-3, 12 KOs, 1 NC). Torres went to the canvas four times before referee Joe Rodriguez had enough.
Shane Mosley Jr. (21-4, 12 KOs) got his third win of the year with a sixth-round stoppage against Joshua Conley (17-6-1, 11 KOs). The 10-round middleweight clash was halted by Conley’s corner before round seven could begin. Mosley’s father, “Sugar” Shane Mosley, was also ringside.
Darius Fulghum (9-0, 9 KOs) extended his knockout streak with a second-round stoppage of Pachino Hill (8-5-1, 6 KOs). The eight-round super middleweight clash ended at the 0:56 mark, with referee Mark Calo-oy waving it off. This bout opened the main card on DAZN.
Asa Stevens (6-0, 2 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Dominique Griffin (5-6-2, 2 KOs) in a four-round super bantamweight clash. All judges had it 40-36.
Gael Cabrera (3-0, 2 KOs) stopped Alejandro Dominguez (2-1, 1 KO) in the opening round of a four-round bantamweight clash.
