On September 6, live from the Sunderland Live Arena in Houghton-le-Spring, Sunderland, Pat McCormack vs Miguel Parra headlines a Matchroom Boxing card. Pat McCormack vs Miguel Parra

After some great performances on the undercard, it was time for Pat McCormack vs Miguel Parra in the WBA welterweight final eliminator. It was an impressive opening round from McCormack as he boxed with control and put his shots together well. The jab from McCormack (8-0, 6 KOs) and his shot selection impressed during the opening few rounds.

As the fight reached the halfway point, the accuracy and punch selection from McCormack were so impressive. The domination continued, despite McCormack having a point taken off in the sixth. Parra (25-6-1, 17 KOs) was brave throughout, but was thoroughly outclassed, with McCormack showing impressive punch selection while showing great defensive qualities. McCormack increased the tempo in the ninth round and landed a series of brutal combinations, with Parra somehow staying on his feet and surviving the round. After returning to his corner, Parra’s team decided to pull their man out before the start of the tenth and final round.

Mark Dickinson vs Troy Williamson

In the penultimate fight of the night, Mark Dickinson (8-2, 2 KOs) faced Troy Williamson (21-4-1, 15 KOs) for the vacant English super middleweight title, which is only available for Williamson after Dickinson missed the weight. Dickinson started well and looked sharp, and landed some heavy-looking shots in the opening two rounds, while Williamson did have his moments in those opening six minutes. The third round was entertaining with both working well on the inside, but the better work came from Dickinson.

The fourth round was again full of action, with both having noticeable success, with Williamson winning the majority of the exchanges. Dickinson was still having his moments by the midway point, but Williamson is more than in this fight. An entertaining eighth round saw both sit down on their punches and land heavy-looking shots. During the ninth round, Williamson absorbed a huge left hook before landing a huge right hand, knocking Dickinson down.

Despite beating the count, “Boo Boo” was on unsteady legs, and following more heavy shots, the referee jumped in to wave the fight off, awarding Williamson the ninth-round TKO victory. It was an entertaining fight, and Williamson is now the English super middleweight champion.

Leo Atang vs Cristian Uwaka

Next up on the Pat McCormack vs Miguel Parra undercard was the highly-rated heavyweight prospect Leo Atang (2-0, 2 KOs) against Cristian Uwaka (1-6-1, 1 KO). Atang started fast, showcasing speed and quickly hurting Uwaka. The 18-year-old then scored a knockdown with a right hand. The domination continued, with Atang showcasing great foot movement and picking his shots impressively. Following the second knockdown, the referee had seen enough and waved the fight off, awarding Atang a first-round TKO victory. We will see more from Atang as he goes through the levels, but there’s a hint of Moses Itauma about him.

Sandy Ryan vs Jade Grierson

First up on the Pat McCormack vs Miguel Parra live DAZN broadcast was Sandy Ryan (8-3-1, 3 KOs) vs Jade Grierson (5-1-1, 3 KOs) in the welterweight division. Ryan looked sharp in the opening round, letting her jab go and working smartly off that. Grierson has her best moments in the third round, but Ryan remained composed and landed the better shots. Over the next few rounds, Grierson showed bravery, but Ryan looked sharp, with her jab standing out. Both women dug deep in the final round and traded blows, but Ryan was ultimately a level above. The judges’ scorecards read 98-92, 99-91, 100-90, all in favour of Ryan, who will surely be looking for another world title opportunity.

Cameron Vuong vs Reuquen Cona Facundo Arce

It was the lightweights up next, with  Cameron Vuong (9-0, 4 KOs) vs Reuquen Cona Facundo Arce (18-21-2, 7 KOs). Vuong boxed with patience and found a regular home for his right hand. The composure and discipline continued throughout the rest of the fight, with Vuong showcasing good footwork and punch placement. Vuong stayed patient throughout and controlled the distance tempo, working well off his jab. It was a comfortable night’s work for the Blyth fighter, who won 80-72 on the referee’s scorecard.

Adam Maca vs Francisco Rodriguez

Next up on the Pat McCormack vs Miguel Parra undercard was highly regarded prospect Adam Maca (2-0, 2 KOs) vs Francisco Rodriguez (1-22, 1 KO) in the bantamweight division. It was a bright opening round for Maca, who showed impressive variation and accuracy. Maca continued to operate on the front foot and pick his openings. Rodriguez did have his moments with the right hand, but a well-timed right hand in the fourth and final round knocked his opponent down. Despite beating the count, Maca sensed a finish and landed a series of well-placed heavy punches, forcing the corner of Rodriguez to throw in the towel.

Tiah-Mai Ayton vs Lydie Bialic

Next up was the exciting prospect Tiah Mai Ayton (2-0, 2 KOs) against Lydie Bialic (3-4-1, 1 KO) in the bantamweightdivision. Ayton was sharp from the very first bell, working well off her jab, putting her shots together impressively. A sustained attack from Ayton forced a knockdown in the third round, confirming the dominance of the Bristol fighter. Another brutal attack in the fourth round saw another knockdown, with the referee stepping in to wave the fight off, awarding Ayton the TKO win. Very impressive again from the 19-year-old prospect.

Brad Casey vs Goran Kozul

In the opening fight of the night, Brad Casey (1-0, 0 KOs) made his professional debut against Goran Kozul (5-8, 2 KOs) in the cruiserweight division. It was a bright start from Casey, who showed poise and mixed his shots well in the opening round. A brutal left to the body in the second forced Kozul to take a knee. Casey continued to move well and land some heavy shots during the rest of the round. Kozul did well to survive the round. Kozul showed bravery as Casey continued to land heavy punches. A well-timed right hand saw Casey score another knockdown in the fourth round. It was a dominant debut, with the referee scoring the bout 40-36.
