Moses Itauma vs. Dillian Whyte: Live Results Recap

Moses Itauma vs. Dillian Whyte Fight Recap

Moses Itauma (13-0, 11 KOs) continued his charge towards a world title with a first round stoppage of Dillian Whyte (31-4, 21 KOs).

The official time of stoppage was 1:59. With the win, Itauma continues his string of impressive knockout victories. This was the Slovakian-born Brit’s eighth first round stoppage despite just having 13 professional contests to his name.

Itauma immediately had success keeping his opponent at bay and landing singular shots from a distance. He mixed up the straight shots that he threw, sometimes landing a jab to the head or a straight to the body. It was not long before his hardest shots landed on Whyte.

Itauma landed a left hook to the temple that rocked “The Body Snatcher” just over a minute into the contest. The young heavyweight followed that up with a barrage of punches that nearly dropped Whyte. When Whyte did not go down from that, Itauma took a step back and selected his punches. It did not take him long to find the shot that gave him the knockdown, doing so with a right hook upstairs. Although Whyte got up, he stumbled backwards into the corner. It was at that moment that the referee decided to wave off the fight, giving Itauma the stoppage victory.

Nick Ball vs. Sam Goodman Fight Recap

Nick Ball (23-0-1, 13 KOs) got the unanimous decision victory over a determined Sam Goodman (20-1, 8 KOs).

Scores were 118-110, 117-111, and 115-113. With the win, Ball retains his WBA featherweight world title. He won the belt in June last year against Raymond Ford. This was his third time defending the title.

The early rounds saw Ball land the more eye-catching shots between the two. However, Goodman’s jab mostly prevented the reigning champion from closing the distance. As a result, Ball was throwing his swinging punches at range. Goodman’s reach allowed him to safely land shots from a distance, but they did not have the same effect as his opponent’s.

Ball was being frustrated throughout the fight. Goodman consistently kept him at bay with the jab and his longer reach gave him particular success with straight shots and hooks to the body. Despite this, Ball continued to press forward and swing away. Both men went toe-to-toe in the final round which also saw Ball get cut by the right eye from an accidental clash of heads. It was the consistent, hard swinging shots of the Liverpudlian that the judges favoured, each scoring the fight for him.

Moses Itauma vs. Dillian Whyte Undercard on DAZN

Hayato Tsutsumi (8-0, 5 KOs) won via third round technical knockout against Qais Ashfaq (13-4-1, 5 KOs). The official time of stoppage for this 10-round super featherweight fight was 2:08. Ashfaq was first dropped in the second from a right hook to the temple followed by a left hook to the body. In round three, Tsutsumi scored another knockdown from a left uppercut followed by a right hook. Not long after that, a left hook upstairs dropped Ashfaq for a third time. A subsequent barrage from Tsutsumi caused the referee to step in and end proceedings.

Opening the PPV broadcast on DAZN, Filip Hrgović (19-1, 14 KOs) won a unanimous decision against David Adeleye (14-2, 13 KOs). Scores for their 10-round heavyweight clash were 99-90 (x2) and 98-91.
