Dzmitry Asanau Outclasses Francesco Patera Over 10 Rounds
Dzmitry Asanau vs. Francesco Patera Fight Recap
The opening round was fought at a high tempo. Asanau immediately established himself as the quicker of the two and was throwing out several fast jabs. As the fight progressed, the Belarussian continued to out land his opponent thanks to speed. Patera was able to find openings from time to time and landed counters when the opportunity presented itself, but these were few and far between.
As the fight entered the middle rounds, Asanau continued to operate as before. His hand speed and footwork allowed him to land more punches and avoid anything that would be cause for concern. In the eighth, both men chose to spend most of the round fighting on the inside. While they abandoned this approach in the ninth, the two continued to throw with bad intentions. Despite Patera’s best efforts, he was unable to figure out his opponent, allowing Asanau to win comfortably on the scorecards.
Mary Spencer Defends Her World Title With Ease Against Ogleidis Suarez
Mary Spencer (10-2, 6 KOs) had little trouble retaining her world title, doing so with a unanimous decision win over Ogleidis Suarez (31-6-1, 15 KOs).
Scores for their contest were 100-90 (x2) and 99-91. With the victory, Spencer retains her WBA super welterweight world title. Initially an interim champion, she was promoted to full titlist after Terri Harper had vacated it. This was Spencer’s first world title defence since her promotion.
The Canadian had few issues throughout the fight. Spencer consistently threw out the jab, making it difficult for her opponent to close the distance and land punches of her own. No matter what Suarez did, she was unable to land something that would cause any concern for the reigning champion. Spencer continued to outbox the challenger and went on to claim a straightforward unanimous decision win.
