The first fight on the main undercard of Diego Pacheco vs Kevin Lele Sadjo saw Skye Nicolson 14-1, 3 KOs) face Yuliahn Luna Avila (28-4-1, 4 KOs) for the WBC interim super bantamweight belt.
It was a good start from Nicolson, who moved well and picked her punches effectively, with Avila unable to close the distance early on. Nicolson’s counter punches were effective early on as Avila rushed in.
Nicolson continued to control the tempo of the fight, negating the strengths of Avila with her slick footwork and accurate punching. The check hook from Nicolson landed regularly throughout the fight. The Australian was in control since the first round, superior in every department to her opponent. The judges’ scorecards read 98-92 x2 and 97-93 in favour of Nicolson.
Arturo Cardenas vs Cesar Vaca
Next up for the WBC continental Americas super bantamweight title was Arturo Cardenas (17-0-1, 9 KOs) vs Cesar Vaca (19-3-1, 12 KOs).
Both started well, showcasing fast hand speed. Vaca enjoyed a strong second round before both planted their feet and landed heavy shots at the end of the round. The end of the fourth round saw both fighters exchange bombs once again. As the rounds progressed, Cardenas began to get the better of the exchanges, using his jab effectively.
A straight right hand from Cardenas in the seventh round stunned Vaca, who fell back, suffering a knockdown. The entertaining fight went to the judges’ scorecards, who scored the bout 98-91 x2 and 97-92, ensuring Cardenas retained his WBC Continental Americas super bantamweight title. It was a deserved win for Cardenas who overcame a tough start to win many of the exchanges with Vaca.
Chev Clarke vs Anthony Holloway
Next up in the cruiserweight division saw the return of Chev Clarke (11-2, 8 KOs), who faced American fighter Anthony Hollaway (9-10-3, 7 KOs).
After a cagey start to the fight, Holloway stunned Clarke at the end of the second round, leaving the Brit on unsteady legs as the bell saved him. Clarke adjusted well in the third, closing the distance.
A strong fourth round from Clarke saw him do his best work up close, with Hollaway looking exhausted. At the end of the fourth round, the referee waved the fight off after consulting with Hollaway’s corner, who needed medical treatment after the fight. Clarke was awarded the fourth-round KO victory.
Sachery Sam vs Brandon Medina Guerrero
